My search for Indiana Waterfalls began in 2001 at the Salamonie River State Forest. The forest is located on HWY 524 near Lagro, in-between Huntington and Warsaw on US 24. Do not confuse the Salamonie River State Forest with the Salamonie Reservoir or anything else for that matter, as everything in the area seems to be Salamonie this or Salamonie that!
Once inside the state forest stay on the main drag, as the falls are located at the opposite end. You'll end up at Hominy Ridge Lake where there is a parking lot, shelter house, picnic tables, etc. Get out here and walk through the picnic area and you will come to a spot where you can look down upon the falls in their gorge surroundings. Walk or slide (your preference--I did a bit of both!) down the hill for a closer look.
I visited Salamonie River State Forest on March 4. I wasn't aware that at this point in the season the falls would still be at low flow. As you can see, the falls iced over during the winter and had not yet completely thawed. However, I enjoyed them just the same. It was a different scene and I'm glad I got to include it on my site to add a little variety.
