Cecil Lunsford and Edgar Crowe secured permission to construct some horseshoe pitching courts at the new Clay County 4-H Fair Grounds. They furnished the money and did most of the construction of the 12 courts. Later improvements have been financed by Riddell Bank and has been paid by league dues, participation money, donation by both members and business'.
Our first AHPA sanction tournament was in 1989. Everyone seemed to have a good time that day. The clay was so muddy pitchers had trouble finding their shoes. Some even used shovels to dig them out.
We had eight teams that first year. We installed our lights in 1990 and built our club house in 1991.
