"I bought a really cool necklace. I think it was $4.99"

Heather McComb on her ways to celebrate career success.

When you star in a high profile commercial at the age of two, what other career alternative do you have except acting? Heather McComb seems to have made the only choice for her. She was born in Lakewood, New Jersey on the second of March 1977. The first time she was infront of a camera was in a Publisher's Clearing House commercial. This led to other roles in commercials and eventually she found her way to television series.

She hit the big time at the age of eleven when she landed the role of Zoe in Francis Ford Coppola's "New York Stories". She moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue a career in television. Heather was cast in the series "The Outsiders" in 1990. She has made guest star appearances in "The X-Files", "Chicago Hope", "Millennium" and "thirtysomething".

Heather joined the cast of Profiler in the middle of the first season in 1997. She played Frances, Bailey Malone's (Robert Davi) troubled daughter who was forced to move in with him because of her problems with law inforcement. As the series progressed the two gradually grew closer. Since Heather's parents have divorced, she could relate to Frances and her feelings: "I can relate to the whole issue of missing a father, who returns much later and wants back in your life". In real life Heather is extremely close to her mother; "she's the perfect balance between parent and a friend" she explains.

After the season 1997/1998 her contract with Profiler was up, and she moved onto other things. During the next year she held a recurring character status in FOX's "Party Of Five" as Maggie, Julia's (Neve Campbell) college roommate. She was on the show for a year after which she has appeared in "Anywhere But Here" with Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. Her other movies include Bryan Singer's "Apt Pupil", "The Joyriders" and "2 Little, 2 Late".

Heather enjoys working out, playing volleyball, haunting flea markets, collecting religious paraphernalia, and painting pottery. She appears in The Counting Crows' video "Hanging Around". She married her long-time boyfriend and fiancee James Van Der Beek in July 2003. (Issue February 2004 of the US InStyle magazine includes a small feature on their wedding.)
