Yabbies can be found in most Australian fresh water dams, creeks, rivers, ponds, etc.
Yabbies make great pets. They are very hardy, they go in cold water, they look good and they will eat almost anything. Their only drawback is their aggressive and destructive nature. They will try and kill just about anything they can get to. They can live well enough with each other until one of them sheds its skin. When this happens, they become soft and vulnerable and usually are promptly killed unless the tank is big enough for them to get away. They can regenerate lost limbs, and after a while, they sometimes turn bright blue.
