Restoration of WW2 M1930Japanese Helmet
Singapore war years
Back in 2002.  I purchased an original Japanese Army helmet shell and started to plan for it's restoration... However, I soon realised that this shell is a GI reworked shell and had to fill in some holes, remove the liner attachments in addition to the restoration process...After being super busy in the army for the past 1 and a half years, I finally had the time to acquire the parts needed and most important of all, the time needed to start on this project.

2 - After sanding off the paint of the shell on both outside and inside to bare metal(with a lot of help from my dad and some blisters)...We can see quite a number of round holes that needed to be filled.
1 - The untouched shell with two liner attachments to be removed (can be seen at the lower interior of the shell) Time to get to work....
The shell now, waiting for several holes to be filled and for it to be primed...
I noticed these markings on the interior only after removing off all the paint..This one above shows the numbers " 1301 " stamped on the dome of the shell...Is it original to the shell?
This was what remained after removing the liner attachment...The 2 unsightly marks needs to be filed downmore....
This is the size marking stamped on the interior of the shell...The top is a marking of a smaller star within a bigger one.  The character below is " Da" in chinese meaning that this helmet shell size is big. Sometimes you can see that this character is white painted over on original shells...
I filled up the holes with epoxy putty and sanded it down to give it a smooth finish..Next step is to attach the 3 metal brackets to loop the chinstrap through...
