Young Creations! Art Competition - 15 Feb 2004
Home
Singapore war years
Held on 15 Feb 04 to commemorate Reflections at Bukit Chandu's 2nd Anniversary as well as Total Defence Day, the art competition encouraged over 100 young children to translate their interpretations of the themes - war and peace - onto their artworks. See the official webpage  Young Creations! Art Competition for more details!

I was also there to catch up on the action and it was the first display we did at a public event with the generous support of the staff of National Heritage Board of Singapore.

The display also served to help the children to cultivate ideas on how to draw the Japanese soldier during the art competition. Scroll down for more information and pictures!

That's me with the stuff displayed out...I was very excited that morning I forgot to eat my breakfast! But the best was yet to come!
Original Japanese items on display... Bandage, canteen with harness, gas mask etc!
Japanese reproduction items on display...Mess tin, Soft cap, Jikatabi etc
Japanese Tropical shirt with trousers
Just a few of the many kids who came to see the display...Many of them only seen pictures of equipment in books..Here's their chance to gain an eye opening experience!
1st Surprise - Here I am having a small chat with DR LEE BOON YANG, MINISTER FOR INFORMATION, COMMUNICATIONS & THE ARTS who graced the competition and kindly dropped by to see the display.  I took the opportunity to explain to DR LEE some of the more unusual equipment pieces - Like the Jikatabi (Split toe sneakers)
2nd Surprise - I was interviewed by the local news (Channel 5, Suria and Channel News Asia ) and talked about some selected equipment during the interview.

CNA Reporter Ken Teh (In above picture, centre) did the segment with me and 2 other kids!...It turned out most interesting and enjoyable with my short acting stint on TV! It was my first time  appearing on prime time news also!
Unforgettable...in every way...
Once again, another first for our group! Mission Accomplished!
Lots and parents and children swarmed Reflections at Bukit Chandu for more afternoon treats and food galore!
