GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Some of them here ar different. Some were beaten, or starved, or tortured, or burned and many unloved and abandoned to fate. Many bear scars on their hearts even tho they crossed te Bridge and were made whole again. They watch wistfully as their friends leave one by one to cross the Bridge again with their special persons at last. For them there is no one, no special one. Their time on Earth did not give them one, only suffering. But one day, as they run and play, they notice someone standing by the road to the Bridge. This person wistfully watches the reunions of friends, for in their life they had no pet and were also beaten, starved, and unloved. As they stand there alone, one of the unloved pets comes up to them, curious as to why this one is still alone. As they get nearer to each other a miracle occurs, for these are the ones who were meant to be together. Their special persons, their beloved pets, although on Earth they never met. With the meeting of the two souls, the pain and sorrow disappears and two more friends are together. They too then cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never to be separated. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together......."

Sandy, I still can feel the tender soft touch of your cheek on my lips when I told you for the last time how much, how very much I loved you. You are so deep in my heart that I cannot find words to say what I feel still when I think of you. I look at your pictures and it feels like only yesterday. Czar missed you too a long time and now he is 15 1/2 too. He will join you all too soon, but look for him and meet him so he is not too frightened, Sandy. Spooky was waiting for you and the three of you can be together when I come over to you. I know you sometimes come to me because I can see your fleeting shadow as you brush past, or wake from a dream to feel your warm sniff at my hand. I look forward to your visits, sweetie. You are so beautiful, Sandy, and your sweetness and loving ways live in my heart. Remember that first day when I came to see you and you sat by me at the door waiting to go with me? It was love at first sight for us both and It broke my heart to leave you and wait two days until you came to stay with me. IF I SHOULD GROW FRAIL If it should be that i grow frail and week And pain does keep
me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done for this-the last battle--can't be won. You
will be sad,,,I understand,, But don't let greif then stay your hand.. For on this day,,, more than the
rest Your love and friendship must stand the test.. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't
want me to suffer,,,,,,,so, When the time comes,,,,,Please let me go... Take me to where my needs
they'll tend, Only,,,,,Stay with me till the end. And hold me firm,,,and speak to me,,,, Until my eyes
no longer see. I know in time,,, you will agree, It is a kindness,,,,you do to me Although my tail its
last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must now be, you
Who has decided this thing to do,,, We've been so close,,,,,,we two,,,,,these years, Don't let your
heart hold any tears ~ ~ ~~~ ~~~~

I know many of us are still trying to cope with the loss of one of our
beloved fur people in the past year and are facing the first Christmas
in many years without them.  There are tears, lots of them.  And maybe
we can offer special prayers, appropriate to our individual beliefs, for
them to have a Happy Christmas with their Creator.  We can also offer
our prayers for those still in shelters, those suffering cruelty that we
have not yet learned of, those still undiscovered in Puppy Mills, those
fighting for thier lives in Vet Clinics, and most of all those dear
souls, the dogs and cats in the Orient who are facing cruel deaths at
this moment, and it seems always,  Since we can't really save them at
this moment, we can ask for thier quick release, without suffering, into
the arms of their Creator and that our dogs over the Bridge will find
them and share with them love and caring as they knew with us.  It will
be a shadowed holiday for many of us.

Ruth, Bitty, and my dearly beloved Czar in Spirit and forever in my
heart until we meet once more.

A Rosebud"
When God calls little puppies to dwell with Him above, We humans always
question the wisdom of His love. For no heartache can compare with the
loss of one small 'child', Who does so much to make this world seem
wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires - always calling the aged to His fold, And so He picks
a rosebud before it can grow old. God knows how much we need them and so
He picks but few; To make the land of heaven more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult, yet somehow we must try, For the saddest
word that mankind knows will always be "good-bye". And so when little
pups depart; We, who are left behind, must realize how much God loves
puppies....
