Thought of the Day:
The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give to others.

Happy Birthday greetings to Stephanie and Linda (8/27/04)
Here it us Sunday night already! Why do weekends go by so fast?

This weekend in particular went by fast because John and I went camping at Bruce and Sherry's again. John had another weekend off, so, despite the forecast for rain, off we went. John had to work Friday night until Midnight, so Sherry picked me up after work, took me home to change, and, after taking some unexpected phone calls, and making a trip to the grocery store, we arrived about seven thirty. Fortunately, John had already dropeed off our gear (sleeping bags, coolers, food, clothes, etc.) and Bruce had taken it back to the campsite on his John Deer. So, while they finished getting ready, I hiked back to the campsite.

Now, keep in mind that it starts to get dark earlier now, and being surrounded by trees, it's even darker, so I knew the first thing I had to was create light. So, anyhow, I'm scrambling to get the Coleman lantern turned on and couldn't get the *#** propane attached, so I went to option two, which was to get the campfire started. Well, it's rained so much lately, that the wood and twigs wouldn't catch before the paper was burned out. Fortunatly, Bruce showed up and we had a raging fire and a lantern lit in no time. It was still dark enough that I banged my shin on a tree stump while gathering wood. It hurt so much I was sure that I would have a major black and blue mark, but after 15 minutes of ice, no bruise. Bruce drove back to get Sherry and we hung out around the campfire.

John showed up at 12:30, and we roasted hotdogs over the fire, talked, and listened to music, (songs from the 70's and early 80's...Bee Gees, Carpenters, Foreigner, Bob Dylan, Stones, etc...), turned in late, and woke up Saturday to sunshine. So far, so good.

John put up the screenhouse while I hiked down to the house to get creamer for my coffee, use the facilities, etc. Then I hiked back to the campsite while John drove home to feed the animals. I was gathering firewood when I heard thunder in the distance, so I threw a lot more wood on the fire and put everything that was out on the picnic table in the camper.

The rain came down in buckets and turned the campground into a mud bath. The campfire never went out though! When John, Kevin and I used to go camping frequently years ago, a storm would come through almost every time, so I am no stranger to camping in the rain. Actually, it turns it into more of adventure. We'll never complain of having a boring camping trip!

Bruce drove his dirt truck back to help me get more wood to keep the fire burning, and then we got hit with another downpour. John came back and hiked the trails in the rain to bring me my raincoat. (LOL) He said the trails had turned into a stream. Fortunately, it stopped raining, but we were walking in water and mud for the rest of the night. Bruce drove back to pick up Sherry, and John's sneakers ended up blowing out at the sole. It was the only pair of shoes he had with him, so he literally was walking in mud all night.

John made hot sauce similar to Nick Tahoe's for the hamburgers. I'm not a fan of Nick Tahoe's, so I passed, but everyone else loved it, including a friend of ours that had dropped by. Sherry told me the next day that Bruce had woken her up at 2:30 in the morning, asking if any of John's hot sauce was at the house. (LOL)

This is the sign that Sherry made for the camper. She is very creative and has ideas to make little "camp critters", so I'm encouraging her to market her talent.

I had a comment from my last entry of how a recipe with a picture of a bug did not go together well, so here's the recipe again (without the caterpillar picture this time).

Kenzie will be one year old on Saturday. Her party will be at my house. As promised, here are some of her latest pictures:

That's all I have for tonight! Thanks for reading!
