meenaatchiyammai piLLaiththamizh is a thamizh poetry on my mother shrii miinaakshi amman by the poet kumaraguruparar. I am planning to transliterate this here and also provide text in Tamil. I have enough information about the author, his other works, and especially, this work with notes. But it will be another six months or so before you see the complete work here. But as prelude, I give the opening verse. I use Madurai transliteration scheme for thamizh. ====================================================================== kumaragurupara adigaL aruLiya meenaatchiyammai piLLaiththamizh ====================================================================== piLLaith thamizh is one of the ninety six types of prabhandas sung it tamil. Here the poet imagines the God (it can even be saint or a king ), in our case shrii miinaakshi amman, as child and sing in praise of her childhood. We can say that the poet assumes the role of mother and adores the child. In hindu tradition, there are different bhaavas in which you can sing in praise of the God and this one of the bhaavas. The nature of piLLaith thamizh will vary slightly depending on whether the child is a male or a female. This will dictate the number of stages into which the childhood is divided. The first seven stages are same for both baby boy and the girl, but the last three stages differ. My first goal is to transliterate the text, hence I will not be providing English translation immediately. Another reason for this is my understanding of the subject is poor. As I mature, I hope to translate this text. As this birth of mine and the following one will only center around her, I have enough time to accomplish these tasks. \bt paruvaGNkaL 1) kaappup paruvam ipparuvam kuzhan^ththaiyin iraNdaam thiGNkaLil thotaGNkum. kaaththaR kadavuLaagiya thirumaal muthal thEvarkaLai vaNaGNki, piLLaiyai kaakka ena vENduvathu ippakuthiyil amaiyum. 2) cheGNkeeraip paruvam oru kaalai madakki oru kaalai neetti, iru kaikaLaiyum nilaththil oonRith thala nimin^thu mukam asaiya aaduthal. ipparuvam kuzha^thaiyin ain^thaam thiGNkaLil nikazhum. 3) thaalap paruvam thaalaattaik kavanikkum paruvam. thaalattu - oru vakai naavasaippu. 4) chappaaNip paruvam iraNdu kaikaLaiyum onRaakach chErthtu kottum paruvam. ithu onbathaavathu thingaLil nigathum. 5) muththap paruvam kuzhanththaiyai muththam tharumaaRu peRRoryum chuRRaththavarum veNdum paruvam. ithu pathinonRaam thingaLil nigazhvathu. 6) varukaip paruvam chiRunadai eythum paruvam. ithu pannirendaam thingaLil nigazhvathu. 7) ambulip paruvam vaanil thavazhum azhagiya nilavai kuzhain^thaikku kaatti viLaiyaadum paruvam. ithu pathinettam thingaLil nigazhum. 8) ammaanaip paruvam piLLaiyai nOkki maatharkaL muththammaanai muthaliya ammaanaiyai etuththaadi aruLa vENdumenak kooRum paruvam. 9) neeraadaR paruvam piLLaiyai nOkki makaLir aaRRu veLLa neeraada vENdikooRum paruvam. 10) oosaR paruvam kuzhan^thaiyai ooJNchalil ERRi makaLir avvooJNchalai aadachcheyyum paruvam. iRuthiyil nikazhum moonRu paruvaGNkaLum ain^thu aaNdu muthal onbathavathu aaNduvarai nikazhum enRu kooRuvar. thodarum ...
