2001 Stanley CupLESS Streak List

History:   The big question after Detroit's 1997 Stanley Cup win, their first in 40 years, was, "Now who has the longest Cupless streak?" That innocent question launched me on a quest; not only to find out what team acquired the dubious distinction of being the Cup-less king, but also to determine where every team ranks. that quest has become an annual tradition at &rea's Place! Perhaps it's the ONLY thing I can say I've kept current for four years now! (Even when in labor with my first child, I made certain the 1998 rankings were uploaded before departing for the hospital!

Below is the complete list, ranked longest to shortest, of the NHL's Stanley CupLESS Streaks!

In cases of a tie, these factors were considered in the actual ranking.

• A newer team with no Cup is ranked ahead of an older team that won the year prior to the new team's entry.
• Teams with no Cup and that entered the League at the same time are ranked according to their best playoff showing:
  • Teams which reached, but lost in, the Finals are ranked according to length of time since their appearance
  • Teams which never reached the Finals are ranked according to their best showing in the playoffs.
    (Teams that frequently exit in the first round are ranked before teams that tend to reach later rounds.)
