In 2001 the Flyers assigned jersey #27 to Jan Hlavac. While he didn't stay long in Philly, Flyer and Ron Hextall fans everywhere are clammering to see 27 where it belongs, floating high above the fans and players at the First Union Center on a commemorative banner. If you feel that 27 shouldn't be on the ice, but instead hang aside of 1, 4, 7, and 16, then let it be known. My Bravenet Guestbook is going to serve as the location to list all the supporters of this idea.

Not convinced? Let's try some other facts:

  • First goaltender to score on his own shot in a regular season game
  • First goaltender to score on his own shot in a postseason game
  • 29 career regular season points to lead all Flyer netminders
  • Offered to take pay cut in order to finish career in Philadelphia
  • Always willing to defend the honor of a teammate (remember Chelios and Nilsson?)
  • Always friendly and accomodating to his fans, even today

I'm Convinced, What Next?
There are three things we ask that you do:
  1. Sign the "Petition"
Ok, so it's not a live petition. It doesn't go directly to the Flyers, but is there a way to email them directly with this concern? No, not really. Will a letter-writing campaign produce results? Highly unlikely due to the volume of mail they must receive. But this hardly means we should sit back and tolerate the present situation. If we all sign then promote it to our friends and fellow Flyer fans, word will get around. And when word gets around, it's inevitably going to get back to the organization, because, who knows just who might learn about this and help our cause. Maybe once they SEE how we feel, they'll give it some consideration. After all, without the fans, there'd be no team.
  2. Tell a Friend
Now, take a moment to share this with a fellow fan who may not be aware of it yet. Simply fill in the friend's email, your information, and a persuasive note explaining why your friend should visit this site right away. Then send it. Send as many as you like!
