STERLING CLUB
i always on the lookout for a way to make clubbing different.  In March 1982, with a girl called Yellana, I set up the Sterling club, which was very inventive for its time,  at Kensington Roof Gardens, off Kensington High Street, wich had been the famous Regines in the seventies. It was  a place to go after Sunday lunch, where you could sit down and read a Sunday paper, have afternoon tea,  play backgammon, chess or card games.  You could feed the pelicans in the garden, be entertained by a drag act,  then the bar would open and there would be a DJ. The DJ at the time was Jeremy Healy. Because the strict Sunday licensing laws the bar only open from 7pm to 10.30pm,  so people only had three hours to get pissed
