Chapter History
Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Inc./Alianza de Raices Latinas became the first east coast-based Latina sorority in San Antonio, Texas to offer and provide a support network for Latina students.  Focusing on academic excellence, community service, and sisterhood, the seven Chapter Founders--Victoria Vanessa Ruiz, Hortencia Morales, Alexandra Saldana, Amy Denise Aleman, Lorena Navar Gutierrez, Monica Espinoza,  and Selena Michelle Baeza--created a sisterhood that would be open to all women who were searching for a vehicle to help them academically and support them emotionally.

Hermanas at Epsilon Chapter expect one another to exemplify the mission, goals, and ideals of La Alianza.  Hermanas vow to promote academic excellence, community service, and sisterhood.  La Alianza shall continue eternally through the commitment that Epsilon Hermanas have to Alpha Rho Lambda's mission.
National History
Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Incorporated was founded on March 26, 1993 at Yale University by ten proud women of mixed Latina heritage.  These women--Jacqueline Fermin, Leticia C. Martinez, Aimee R. Thorne-Thomsen, Esperanza G. Ingersoll-Weng, Evelyn Rojas, Onica S. Cole,  Elisabeth A. Landry-Ciacci, Nancy L. Nava, Melissa Diaz, and Lydia Marquez--came together in the Fall of 1992 in search of a sisterhood that stood for service to the Latino community, academic excellence, empowerment of all women, and unity.

What they found was the strength and ideals within themselves to create a new sorority that stood for all they sought, and emphasized the respect they held for themselves and all women.  One of the goals of this organization is to pave the way for a new era in Latino Greek letter organizations, in which all Latinos can unite under a common purpose.

Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Incorporated represents Latinas from many places around the world and many walks of life, giving us a broad spectrum of the issues and aspirations within Latino communities in the United States and abroad.
