I've been interested in science & astronomy since the early 60's. Those early sci-fi movies, Star Trek episodes, my mom's help in getting interested in star gazing, learning constellations & teaching me the names of the planets, my first rinky-dink hand held K-Mart telescope & science classes made quite an impression on me. The magazines I enjoy are Discover, Smithsonian, National Geographic & the like. I belong to the Planetary Society & they send me their own magazine that stays current with all the new technologies to further help increase our knowledge of the universe. My best Christmas present ever was a 6" Dobsonian Reflector Telescope from my hubby. I'm still learning how to use it--gotta go back to all my college astronomy notes to remember where the Horsehead Nebula is or which constellation Betelgeuse appears (oh, Orion!).
Sci-fi is another world I just love to visit. It's almost like looking into a crystal ball...what is science fiction today becomes science fact tomorrow. Just look at the computer you are using. Wasn't around that long really. Use to be a subject just read about in some sci-fi story. Not long ago, I read an article,"Faster Than a Speeding Photon" in the August issue of Discover magazine that warp drive(a' la Star Trek?) is possible "in theory". Just on the drawing board for now.
I'm a nature nut. I love the great outdoors. I camp, fish & travel just to get out there & relax. I am glad there are organizations likeForests Forever and others to keep the wild places wild.
