Special thanks to the posters of the Termite Terrace Trading Post, for assisting me in documenting the Popeye cartoons that aired on Cartoon network.

This section of articles is to document the progress in restoring the Popeye cartoons released by Paramount Pictures from 1933 to 1957. As of the writing of this paragraph, some black and white Popeyes have appeared on Acme Hour, in black and white.

In September 1988, the first syndicated package of redrawn Popeye cartoons appeared. The first ever cartoon shown in this package was "KING OF THE MARDI GRAS".

The first color Popeye cartoon as part of the above package was "Jitterbug Jive". The sound had been sped up on this cartoon. Not a good start for showing color cartoons. Since it was a 1950 cartoon, it appeared with the aap logo. It has since appeared on CN with restored Paramount titles.

Today, almost all of the color Popeye cartoons have restored Paramount openings, some incorrectly restored. However, a few color cartoons still have the familiar aap zoom back opening. The following is a partial list of Popeye cartoons appearing with AAP titles.

B&W or redrawn Popeye cartoons with AAP titles airing on CN since May 3.

"Stealin' Ain't Honest"
A Dream Walking

Color Famous Studios cartoons with AAP titles airing on CN since May 3, 2001:

Nurse to Meet Ya,

The premiere of "The Popeye Show" was promoted as much as the June Bugs marathon in June 2001. It was pushed back from the last Sunday night in October to Veteran's Day night.

The first cartoon to appear on "The Popeye Show" was "Sock a Bye Baby", released in January 1934. It had restored Paramount logos. The soundtrack seemed a bit different than the redrawn version seen on CN for years.

The second cartoon, "The Jeep", released in July 1938, featured nearly the same opening logo as "Sock a Bye Baby", but the closing logo seemed to be from the mid to late 30's.

The last cartoon, "Fighting Pals", released in July 1940, had its original Paramount openings and closings.

Following "The Popeye Show", Cartoon Network aired Late Night Black and White. Here is what aired.

Popeye: "Fleets of Stren'th" (03/13/42)
Popeye: "Blunder Below" (02/13/42)
Popeye: "A Jolly Good Furlough" (04/23/43)
Popeye: "Many Tanks" (05/15/42)
Popeye: "The Mighty Navy" (11/14/41)
Popeye: "A Hull of a Mess" (10/16/42)
Popeye: "I'm in the Army Now" (12/25/36)

The "old" Popeye show featured:

: "Happy Birthdaze" - redrawn, edited
"The Hungry Goat" - redrawn
"Service With a Guile"
