THE ARK SYMBOLIZES OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

THE ARK POINTS TO JESUS CHRIST
AS THE ONLY DOOR TO HEAVEN

It is amazing that although the Ark is so enormous in size yet God commanded Noah to have only one door. (Gen. 6:16) The significance of this one and only door is that any creature that entered through it would be saved from destruction during the Great Flood. It may be shocking to us that out of the world's total population only eight people were saved at that time, but God is not impressed with numbers. He only wants people to meet His condition of salvation.

Right now He wants the world to believe in His Son Jesus Christ who declared: "I am the Door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." (Jn. 10:9) The Ark does point to the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Door to Heaven. This is what He said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (Jn. 14:6) "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (1 Tim.2:5) There is no other door that opens to heaven except through our one and only Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is an important truth that we all need to know about God's relationship with Noah and the Ark. It is a covenantal relationship. Here is what God told Noah: "But I will establish My covenant with you; and you will go into the Ark - you, your sons, your wife, and your son's wives with you. . . ." (Gen. 6:18) A covenant has two parties in which each party agrees to do his or her part. God's part was to provide salvation and Noah's part was to enter the Ark with his family. In the same way our Lord Jesus Christ also has a covenant with His people. The Lord's part is to provide salvation and our part is to believe in Him, repent of our sins and be born again.

Here are His conditions of entrance into the Kingdom of God. "Jesus answered, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'" The new birth consists of "born of water and the Spirit" which our Lord Jesus Christ further explained its true meaning, "For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:5) It is clear that "born of water" refers to baptism of water, and "born of the Spirit" refers to baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Here is another interesting truth. Our Lord said to the apostle Peter: "And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Mt. 16:19) Jesus gave Peter two keys to bind people on earth. One is Baptism into the Lord Jesus Christ, and the other is Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Peter used those two keys to open the door to the Kingdom of heaven for the first time on the Day of Pentecost when he preached to the Jews who had gathered in Jerusalem: "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38-39) Peter used those same keys again when he opened the door of the Kingdom of heaven to Cornelius' household, the first Gentiles who ever believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 10:44-48)

The wonderful thing about this Door to Heaven is that it is now wide open. Here is what our Lord Jesus Christ is saying: "These things says He who is holy, He who is true, 'He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts and shuts and no one opens.' I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My Name." (Rev. 3:7-8) As we read on we shall see that the Ark also prefigure the Baptism into the Lord Jesus Christ and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
