BASIC CHRISTIAN TRUTHS

WASHING OF FEET

When the Lord Jesus Christ washed His disciples’ feet it was outside of the Jewish tradition (Jn. 13:3-5) It was also more than just a lesson on humility, servitude, love and forgiveness. Out of deep respect for the Lord, Peter refused to let Jesus wash his feet. "Jesus answered him, ‘If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me’" (Jn. 13:8). The example shown by our LORD is that ministers and Christians having positions in the church should wash the feet of the newly baptized believers only once. (Jn. 13:12-17) Mutual washing of feet amongst believers may be practised whenever it is necessary.
