Venus Riding a Swan
Decorated with a subject that is highly appropriate for a toiletry object, its circular field edged with a laurel wreath, this mirror shows Turan (Aphrodite), designated by an inscription oriented to the left, riding a swan and making the gesture of anakalypsis (or unveiling). This motif, which appeared in Greece during the 5th century BC and spread to Etruria, met with great success in the 4th century. The solid handle ends in a doe's head.
