Cedar tree, Albizia canescens

The cedar tree, Albizia canescens (family Mimosaceae), is a large tree with bi-pinnate leaves and flat, stiff seed pods.

This tree is a source of toffee. The toffee is called egng olor in Uw Oykangand and Uw Olkola. For more information on plant food and the traditional subsistence of Aboriginal people in central Cape York Peninsula, see the Edible plant products page.

This tree is used in ritual practices. The bark is burned to stop rain and dry up the land.
