History of Meridian Lodge No. 6
At the Semi-Annual Session of the Acacia Grand Lodge, now known as the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia, several brethren of Felix Lodge No. 3, sensing the need for another Lodge in this jurisdiction for the dissemination of Masonic Knowledge, petitioned the Most Worshipful Grand Master, the Honorable John F. Cooke and Officers and Members of the Grand Lodge for permission to establish a U. D. Lodge, later to be known as Meridian Lodge No. 6, F.& A.M.. After careful cosideration as to the merits of the appeal, and finding these brethren well qualified, The Most Worshipful Grand Master appointed the necessary Officers to preside over this U. D. Lodge for the year. They having made the necessary proficiency in Masonic Achivency, on April 19th 1869 was granted a Charter, with the following officers; William H. Myers, W. M., Nathan Addison, Albert Ashe, John Z. Bell, Jonathan R. Contee, James H. Dick, Frederick Mason, Arthur Payne, Arthur Panell, Patrick M. Ready, Julius Warren, and George M. Winter. From these twelve Charter Members we have on roll today nearly 150 members. We have produced two Grand Masters, William H. Myers and P.M. Edward E. Marshall, Jr., both having served this jurisdiction well. On December 1, 1874, members of our Lodge with other members of the craft, assisted by sisters of the Eastern Star, organized Queen Esther Chapter No. 1, O.E.S. and on October 20th 1890, P.M. William H. Myers and P.M. Julius Warren of this Lodge along with their wives, daughters and mothers of Master Masons, set up Gethsemane Chapter No. 3, O.E. S. Freemasonry should take each man who conscientiously and understandingly takes its obligation, and label him a fine type of an American Citizen, because it teaches him his obligation in a manner toward which to serve his fellow man in a practical fashion. It has built its Alters lifting its shield above the heads of the widows and orphans, throwing a protective cordon of loving heart and hand around the suffering and distressed.Sister Chapters - Order of the Eastern Star Gethsemane Chapter No. 3 Worthy Matron Nellie W.
