To Catch A Thief (1955)

american poster

To Catch A Thief is one of Hitchcock's lighter and funnier films, which makes the movie a smashing sucess with audiences! Starring two of his most treasured actors, Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, and featuring Academy Award winning cinematography of the lovely French Riviera, To Catch A Thief is not to be missed!

In To Catch A Thief, Cary Grant plays ex- jewel thief, John Robie, out to clear his name after a series of copy cat jewel thefts are commited. The french police are certain that it is John who is commiting the recent roberies. To prove his innocences, John decides to stake out several people of whom, all own expensive jewelry. A woman named Jessie Stevens (Jessie Royce Landis) and her daughter, Frances (Grace Kelly), is one of John's and the real thief's targets. As John and Frances become better aquainted, she soon discovers and is thrilled by John's past. Suddenly, Frances' mother's jewelry is stolen, and Frances accuses John immeadiatly as the thief. Will John be able to prove his innocence to Frances, the french police and more importantly, uncover the true thief?

To Catch A Thief was filmed entirely in one of the most lovliest places on earth, the Cote D'Azur in the south of France. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly make an excellent romantic couple, despite the age difference. There are many excellent supporting actors, especially the actress named Brigitte Auber, who plays Danielle, a naughty french girl. All in all the movie is very pleasing. Cary Grant is up to his usual slick performance, and Grace Kelly is very convincing as the cautious yet steamy, Frances Stevens. A good Hitchcock film to lighten up any day, or something to ease your mind, after watching films like Vertigo and Marnie.
