The Old Peace Chapel is a charming relic of local Americana.
Built originally in New Melle in the mid 1800s, the building served
as a general store, dance hall, and eventually a church.
Timeline of the Chapel:
In 1904, the Duetsche Evangelische Friedens Church formed.
In 1905, the congregation purchased property owned by John and
Laura Koelling and the store building was renovated into a sanctuary.
In 1934, as a result of a merger, the congregation became known
as Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church.
In 1957, the Church became Friedens United Church of Christ and
held services in the New Melle location until costruction plans
of the new Church began in the 1970s.
Friedens was relocated from the New Melle location to Boonesfield
Village in 1983.
Today the building is known as The Old Peace Chapel and
is the heart of Boonesfield Village and a highlight of the tour.
The Old Peace Chapel is blend of original and historic
reconstruction. Old Peace Chapel is available for weddings,
baptisms, vow renewal or other special occasions.
The
Old Peace Chapel was built in the mid
1800's and has been completely restored on the grounds of the
charming Boonesfield Village located directly behind the Daniel Boone Missouri
Home. Many weddings, anniversaries, and renewals of vows are
celebrated each year in this storybook setting. Call Lynn Glancy (636) 798-2005 for more details on using
the beautiful chapel. |
Even though the Old Peace Chapel appears very
small at first viewing, it can seat 100 people. This is part
of the magic of being inside this truly amazing structure. A
quiet feeling of being close to God and nature is key to the
solitude of this special place.

This is a view from the choir loft.
There is room in the choir loft for the organist, singers, or
instrumentalists. The 1860 's pipe organ has been lovingly brought
up to modern standards by the Wicks
Pipe Organ Company of Highland, Illinois.
