Art exhibition in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland
Ulster based transport artist Debra Wenlock, a Guild of Motoring Artists member, has produced a series of paintings depicting the 1928 to 1936 Ards Tourist Trophy races, with an exhibition which was timed to coincide with the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the event. Entitled "Campari and Soda Bread" the exhibition celebrated many aspects of the great road race - its cars, the course, competitors and characters, the crowds, the chase and the champions. Also available was a limited edition book, of the same name, which brings together this evocative collection of paintings with contemporary photographs and background information. Priced at 20.00, each of the 1000 hardback copies is personally signed and numbered by the artist ... a 'must-have' for lovers of fine paintings and old cars. The exhibition was hosted by Ards Arts Centre and held in the old Town Hall, Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland - the most prominent building on the course. The exhibition ran from 16th to 24th June 2003. The book was available at the exhibition and also by post from the artist, please phone 028 9127 5674. Published by Linenopolis ... 'making a present of the past'.
