Class I Occlusal Preparation for Amalgam / page 1
Establish the OUTLINE form by centering the selected bur (330, 245, or 56) in the primary pits and fissures.  In clinical situation, extend for prevention into non-coalesced and non-cleansable grooves.
Identify the primary pits and fissures that  dictate the ideal occlusal outline form.
The outline is centralized in the primary pits and fissures with an ideal isthmus width of 0.8-1.0mm.
Preparation with 330 bur removing the primary pits and fissures.  Minimum resistance form of 1.5 mm depth is determined at the marginal ridges 0.5 mm beyond the mesial and distal pits.  The full length of a 330 bur is 1.5 mm which is used as a measuring guide.
