Dental Sealant, Preventive Resin Restoration, & Class I Composite Restoration / 2 |
The Preventive Resin Restoration (PRR) is indicated when deep pits and fissures and poor oral hygiene have resulted in caries or defective areas that extend well beyond the surface but not quite to the dentinoenamel junction (DEJ). |

After pumicing the tooth surface, the carious and defective areas are removed with small round burs leaving all sound intact enamel. Etching is performed, followed by washing and rinsing. The prepared areas (BLUE) are minimally filled with hybrid composite resin to avoid occlusal interferences. A thin layer of dental sealant (PINK) is placed over the hybrid composite and into the adjacent grooves. Both composite resin and sealant are cured for 40 seconds. Occlusion is verified. |
