Former US naval
analyst insists he did spy for Israel
|
A former United States naval analyst, jailed for spying for
Israel, has reportedly rejected an Israeli compromise which would have
allowed him to go free.
Under the deal, Israel would have recognized that the man,
Jonathan Pollard, worked as one of its agents.
|
In return, he would have been forced to admit that he was operating
without orders when he handed over US military secrets to Israel in the
nineteen-eighties.
Mr Pollard was quoted as saying he was not prepared to justify a
lie.
An American court sentenced Mr Pollard to life imprisonment for
treason in 1987.
