II Defense Grid 6 Thunderbolt Starfighters 1 Atmospheric Shuttle 1 Crew Shuttle None		Designed and implemented in 2226, the Hyperion Heavy Cruiser is the primary escort ship for the Destroyers and Dreadnaughts in the Earth Alliance Navy. Armed with several heavy laser cannon and an array of pulse cannon, the Hyperion Heavy Cruiser can stave off an enemy attack long enough for the heavier Omega Destroyers to turn about and lend their fire to the attack.      The mainstay of the Earth Alliance fleets before the Earth-Minbari War, Hyperions were useful because of their high speed. However, it was shown that they were woefully lacking in capability against the larger Minbari warships and it became a common practice of Heavy Cruiser captains to run rather than fight. This disadvantage led to the emergence of several well-trained officers including a Lieutenant John Sheridan who were able to utilize guile to lure Minbari warships into traps.     At the end of the Earth-Minbari War, two new variants for the Hyperion Heavy Cruiser were introduced. The first was a smaller six-hundred meter variant built to act mainly as a transport and cargo carrier. Designated the Roosevelt-class, these vessels were generally seen as unpopular by the High Command due to the vessel's lack of gravity and weak defensive capabilites in her stripped down state. The second class was an upgrade, the Midwinter-class, which was intended to make the Heavy Cruiser capable of engaging and defeating many of the larger vessels. In fact, the Midwinter-class put the Heavy Cruiser closer to being a Destroyer-type vessel, too slow to act in her primary role as an escort. Because of this, the Midwinter-class has not become a part of the Earth Alliance Navy's arsenal.
