Born in 2221 in what used to be the American south on the North American continent, Jeremy White was too young to participate in the Earth Alliance's war against the Dilgar Empire. Married at the age of 17 to his High School sweetheart, Jennifer Perry, White decided to take up residence with his wife while he waited until his 18th birthday. Tragically, she died in a vehicular accident on the way back to her home with White at the wheel. Burdened by guilt, White spent the next few months until a friend managed to get him back on his feet. Still, he was drawn to Earth Force and when he turned 18, he immediately signed up for service in the Earth Force Marines. His time in the Marines was relatively uneventful as he was moved from planet to planet on garrison assignments. While back on Mars in 2244, he fell in love with and married Kathy Steeling. However, she was unwilling to travel with him and he was forced to leave her on Mars while he was assigned to his new base on Orion VII. It was not until 2245 that he saw his first action. The very first days of the Earth-Minbari War passed over White as the combat was taking place in space between the Earth Alliance and Minbari fleets. However, in 2246 the Minbari fleet arrived above Orion VII and began to deploy troops onto the surface. The Marines immediately engaged the Minbari Warriors and were succesful in clearing the drop zones with their Pulse Rifles and PPGs, but were then beaten back by precision strikes by Nial Fighters coming in from low orbit. Falling back to the main colony, the Marines were further harried and reduced to under half strength. By the time the new defense line had been established, the garrison had been severely depleted and fresh Minbari assault troops had landed. It was at that point that an Earth Alliance fleet led by the Dreadnought Schwartzkopf broke through the Minbari blockade to land shuttles and retreive the defense forces. On their way back to the Dreadnought, several shuttles were destroyed and just under three hundred Marines made it to safety out of the five thousand originally on the surface. The Schwartzkopf retreated from the Orion System at top speed, leaving the colony in the hands of the Minbari. After the disaster at Orion VII, White and the other Marine survivors were taken to Earth for garrison duty to help insure that the homeworld would not fall to the Minbari. While on Earth, White learned of the birth of his son, Kyle, and in a communication from his wife learned that she wanted him to leave Earth Force and return home. White refused to leave his post and began a bitter fight between himself and Kathy which would last for years, marring his relationship with his children. It would not be until 2248 that White would again see action, this time as an observer as the Battle of the Line unfolded in orbit. The expected ground assault never came and the Marines were spared from the battle, only taking part in the aftermath as they moved to reclaim the lost colonies and mop up the damage done by the Minbari. However, by this time White had grown bored and applied to the Earth Alliance Naval Academy. He was accepted in 2249. Graduating in 2253 at the rank of Ensign, White served onboard several smaller fleet tenders and transports during routine operations. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2255, White was assigned to the Corvette Ignatius as executive officer in preparation for command training. He proved competant and when a command post onboard the Heavy Cruiser Assurance opened up in 2257, White was the logical choice to fill the gap. One of White's first assignments was guard duty over a convoy bound for Arisia. Enroute, the convoy was jumped by numerically superior Raider forces and the Assurance came under heavy fire. However, White was able to take command of the situation and maneuver the Heavy Cruiser through the firestorm to take out the lead Raider craft and open a hole for the transports to move through. While the attack ended in a tactical victory for the Raiders, the convoy got through to Arisia without any significant losses and White received a promotion to Commander for his bravey in the face of the enemy. 2258 proved to be a year of much suspicion and trepedation as Babylon 5 became the site of major political moving and shaking. During that time, Vice President Clark began to make quiet inquiries into which officers would be loyal to Earth and which were more loyal to the ideals of peace and friendship with the alien powers. Because of these backroom investigations, White was given a promotion to the rank of Captain and command of the Dreadnought Clavigura, partially as a sign of trust from the High Command but also so that Clark could later call on him as an asset. When, in 2259, President Santiago died aboard Earth Force One over Io, White received a promotion to Brigadier General and command over a full squadron including the Clavigura and the Heavy Cruisers Allegiance and Firestorm. It was White's command that was charged with the blockade of Martian orbit after Clark instituted martial law and it was the Firestorm that later joined the chase of the Alexander as it carried General Hague from the Sol System. With Clark now firmly in control, the Clavigura and her attending vessels were given a roving command, ordered to hunt down and destroy rebel craft. It was this order that brought White and his vessels to Proxima III as the battle was winding down. The Clavigura left hyperspace in close order with the Destroyer Damocles and several Heavy Cruisers to lead a charge against Hague's forces. However, two of the screening ships were lost to fire from several rebel Destroyers and the attack faltered. White's battlegroup turned about to flee and was harried until it entered the safety of hyperspace on course for Earth. When he arrived, he and the other Earth Force commanders were given a thorough verbal thrashing by Clark for the loss of Proxima to Hague, stirring feelings of bitterness and anger. In a conversation with White, Captain Alscone of the Damocles spoke of his new-found hatred for Clark and it is assumed that this converstation led to his defection to the rebel cause. When word of Hague's attack on Orion VII got through to Earth, Clark ordered White and his small force back into the field to fight Hague. However, as before, the Clavigura arrived too late to engage in the main battle but, being the crafty commander that he was, White led his ships in an assault on the rear of the rebel formation. The Destroyer Churchill fell quickly followed by the Heavy Cruiser Watch Tower before two rebel Destroyers turned about to engage the new threat. Against the overwhelming firepower of the two ships, the Clavigura's engines were destroyed and she was forced to fall back under the cover of her two escorts. As it was at the Battle of Proxima, White was forced to take a sideline seat to the main action. Within the hour the defending force had been taken and Orion VII was in the hands of Hague's forces. White and his reduced squadron fled back to the Sol System, hoping for repairs at the shipyards in orbit of Mars. However, the arrival of the Clavigura was hailed with less than enthusiasm as scores of smaller vessel carrying those loyal to Clark in their flight from Hague and his rebels. For four days White's command orbited Mars before space could be cleared for the Dreadnought so that repairs could get underway. While the engine assembly was replaced almost immediately, the yardmaster insisted on upgrading the weapons onboard the Clavigura which further delayed the departure and, when Hague's fleet finally exited hyperspace to battle Clark's forces near Mars, White's ships were trapped within the shipyards and unable to take part in the battle. General Leftcourt's Fourth Destroyer Squadron was defeated by Hague's forces within three hours and, just as the Clavigura exited the shipyards the last of the rebel Destroyers entered hyperspace for Earth. Seeing his chance to do at least a little good, White ordered his small force into pursuit while relief craft from Mars moved to recover the Destroyers floating helplessly in orbit. White and his squadron arrived at Earth as Hague's fleet was battling the Earth Defense Grid in a bid to stop it from firing on the planet. Seeing that the cause he had been fighting for was a total lie, White ordered his command to join with Hague's ships and destroy the orbital platforms. When the Battle of Earth had finally concluded, White and his crew joined in the celebrations as heartily as their compatriots, rejoicing at the end of the civil war that hard torn apart Earth Alliance space for over a year. However, the joys were cut short as inquiries began into the conduct of former Earth Force officers who had served Clark at such locations as Mars, Proxima III and Orion VII where civilian targets had been bombed on orders from Clark. White was placed under investigation almost immediately and temporarily stripped of his rank, but was reinstated on the orders of General Hague when no evidence could be found. Despite his acquital, White was still viewed as something of a traitor for his part in the destruction of the Churchill and the Battles of Proxima and Orion. As part of what most considered to be an exile assignment, he and his ships were assigned as military escort to Ambassador Loyd Bristol-Davies on his mission to Narn. However, with the current political situation between the Narn and the Centauri falling apart again, White is an asset the Earth Alliance cannot ignore. |
