One of the newest models of warship in the Earth Alliance Navy, the Omega Destroyer is one of the heaviest fighting platforms developed for service in combat against the enemies of the Earth Alliance. Mounting twelve heavy cannon, twenty-four medium cannon, two missile launchers and a full defense grid, these vessels are veritable armored fortresses designed for effective seige operations against hostile worlds. They also carry three full squadrons of fighter craft as well as two battalions of Marines for ground and boarding actions.
     The first battle the
Omega Destroyers saw combat in was in 2249 at the Battle of Titan in which three of the powerful warships clashed with rebel elements of a rebellious mining installation. The Destroyers were able to smash the uprising quickly before dispatching ground forces to deal a swift blow and end resistance. Earth Force declared the victory to be proof of the new vessel's ability.
The main vessel in General Hague's war against President Clark's government, the
Omega Destroyer proved to be incredibly versitile and effective as a front line warship, blockade craft, escort and fighter platform. After the war when Earth Force was disbanded and the Earth Alliance Navy was formed, the Destroyer formed the nexus of the new fleets. Currently, over twenty of these vessels are in service.
A sign of the design's reliablity as a warship, President Clark ordered the construction of several advanced type
Omega X-class Destroyers to form an elite squadron. Built with Shadow bio-armor, these craft were meant to slice into General Hague's assault fleets and decimate them entirely. However, the squadron ran afoul of John Sheridan's White Star Fleet and was torn apart by the much faster White Stars. Currently, there are also rumors of a new Omega II-class Destroyer which can mount heavier guns and utilizes a gravitic drive. However, these rumors have been largely discounted as the Earth Alliance does not yet possess gravitic drive technology.
Note: The Omega-class Destroyer may not use her Heavy Particle Lasers or Heavy Pulse Cannon in her port or starboard arcs
