KAHN & BELL BY BOY GEORGE |

Patti Bell & Jane Kahn, who ran a freaky clothes shop. They had Mohican hairdos, stuck diamanté all over their faces, and wore leopardiskin dresses and bits of animal fur in their hair.
A safe haven after the clubs was Patti Bell's house in Edgbaston. Patti was a punk mum and designer. She had a clothes shop in Hurst Street with her friend Jane Kahn. We would sit round Pattys talking till seven in the morning. I often slept there. Patti was an adorable warm person, a curious mixture of youthfulness and wisdom. I loved listening to her tell stories. When she was fourteen she'd appeared as the half lady in a water tank at fairgournd, some trick done with mirrors. As a teenager she went ou with Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck. She was married to rock'r'roller Steve Gibbons, a gorgeous gypsy heart-throb. I once sat for days studding a leather jacket for him. Patty used to say to me " You're famous you are, you're famous. " She would run round the clubs screaming drunk, checking to see how many dresses she'd sold. "Oh, look, there's a Kahn & Bell " BOY GEORGE - TAKE IT LIKE A MAN |
