SYNOPSIS

The Korean War was over and the men and women of the 4077th M.A.S.H. unit had returned to civilian life. Most of them scattered to the four corners of the States but three - Sherman Potter, Max Klinger and Father Mulcahy - were reunited on the staff of the General Pershing Veterans Administration Hospital in River Bend, Missouri. Potter was the chief of staff and it was through his recruiting efforts that Klinger joined the staff as his administrative assistant and Father Mulcahy as the hospital chaplain.

Others on staff included bureaucrats, ineffectual hospital administrator Mike D'Angelo; his pushy secretary Alma; another secretary, Bonnie; and a somewhat ingenuous young surgical resident named Gene. Most notable among the patients was absent-minded old-timer, Bob Scannell. Stories alternated between light comedy and serious depictions of the human wreckage created by war.

There was also a home scene. Klinger's Korean war bride, Soon-Lee, had come with him to America and Potter's unassuming wife, Mildred, who was often talked about but never seen on M*A*S*H (except in a picture on Potter's desk), was on hand as well. By the spring of 1984, another cast member was on the way: Soon-Lee was pregnant with their first child, a boy. The baby was born on the first episode of the show's second season but the series, despite a number of cast changes, including the arrival of a more serious administrator in the person of Wally Wainwright, ended before the end of the year.
