Accidental
Excerpts
All excerpts are taken from Richard Nelson's 1987 adaptation of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist.  Nelson's adaptation is the version we will use for Barefoot Theatre Group's production.  You'll observe that it is less tedious and laborious than some.  Please peruse as you will be asked to read from these monologues during the audition.

We have listed only the Suspect/Fool's monologues as they are the most colorful and flavored with extremities and comical absurdities that allow us to witness an actor's spectrum and limitations.

The Suspect/Fool, of course, is only one integral piece in this satirical puzzle.  There are five companion roles of equal importance.  The Sergeant, Inspector Bertozzo, Captain Pisani, Chief Bellati and the Reporter are equipped with vital moments, energy and humor for a communal stew of bizarre insanity. Sex is irrelevant in all roles.  The only interest we have in a 'type' is some age in the role of the Chief.

We have notified Elliott Bay Book Company of our upcoming production, encouraging them to carry a healthy stock of scripts; we'll see.  For now, enjoy the sides.
