Barefoot Theatre Group's mission is to "untie the laces of injustice"
by engaging, educating, and empowering citizens to reclaim
an authentic democracy.
Given that the political arena is becoming increasingly corporate while the individual citizen is left outside with neither voice nor vote, Barefoot Theatre Group chooses works that illustrate pervasive themes stemming from corporate, governmental, and societal injustice.  Barefoot Theatre Group forges alliances with local, grassroots organizations working on the play's dominant theme of injustice to engage, educate and empower communities, both marginalized and non-marginalized, to facilitate a return to a government by and for the People.

Engage Yourself! Barefoot Theatre Group seeks to maximize theatre's inherent potential to actively engage the entire community.

From the production of the play itself, that involves the equal contributions of

     the Megadeath-loving, long-haired
TECHIE,
     the "have you seen my list of Off-Off-Off Broadway credits"
ACTOR, and
     the "my best date was an iMac" microsoft employee BOX OFFICE MANAGER,

to the theatrical
FORUM OF PERFORMANCE that engages all participants in an emotional, spiritual, and intellectual exchange, Barefoot Theatre Group utilizes the fertile soil to educate and empower the engaged community.

Educate Yourself! Barefoot Theatre Group chooses works that originate from the marginalized voice to educate the community.  Barefoot Theatre Group goes one step further by expanding on the plays' themes of injustice through:

     - website outreach that provides the participant with extensive
       links to educational sites and articles about the plays' dominant
       themes;

     - installation agit/prop adjacent to the theatre space that artistically
       reflects the personal response to the themes of injustice;

     - transformational dialogues occurring post-show that wrestle with the
       themes' applicability to the participants' reality;

     - soliciting the involvement of local students, providing a real-life context
       for creative expression, participatory learning, and exposure to
       themes often excluded from traditional curriculum.

Empower Yourself! Barefoot Theatre Group believes that empowerment comes from a gathered community that has equipped itself with knowledge about injustices threatening an authentic democracy.  By forging alliances with local, public interest organizations that need many voices to be effective in their fights for justice, Barefoot Theatre Group arms this engaged and educated community with tangible resources and opportunities to foster an active participation in civil society.
