Clays Info

I was born in a place that no longer exists.  I started playing guitar when I was 13.  My mother bought me a no-name electric guitar which I thought was soooo cool then.  What parent in their right mind gets their children an amplified musical device?  I saved my money (and anybody else's I could find) and bought a Fender Champ amp.  I learned most songs by ear.  They didn't always sound exactly like the original artists, so I played them louder.  After I got older and got more money, I bought other guitars and things that would help me with my playing - you know, bigger and louder amps.

Randy and Eddie told me they were starting a band and that they needed a bass player.  I had never played bass before, but being a bass player or no player helped me make the choice.  I haven't regretted the decision.  I do get a lot of abuse from the other band members though, because I don't move around much when I play.  Mostly they call me names.  So far I've been called; "Ice Man", "Mr. Personality", "Techno Geek", "Stonehenge", "Stone", and a few others that aren't G-rated.  I get back once in awhile, mostly with drummer jokes and a few aimed at the singer and guitarists.  Have you ever noticed how many drummer jokes there are?

I started playing with Randy's Harmony 4 string bass, then bought a sunburst 4 string Hamer Cruise Bass, and recently added a blue 5 string Fender Jazz bass.  I play these through a Hartke Kickback amp (used mostly as a monitor) and send the signal to the mixer.  I'm saving my money for - whate else?  A bigger and louder amp.

When I started, they told me my job was to help keep time and help with the key changes - but hey, I just play the bass.
