SWAGS
- WHAT THEY DO -
The
Aussie Swag has been around a lot longer than most realise. Banjo
Paterson's song 'Waltzing Matilda' written in the 1890's bears reference
to a jolly swagman, which throws light on the fact that Swags originated
with Australia’s pioneers. The Swag consisted of simply a piece of
canvas or more commonly, oil skin cloth, in which was rolled personal
effects, bedding and tied up with leather belts and a shoulder strap.
For the past couple of decades the humble Swag has gone through some
very radical changes. This simple form of sleeping in the Australian
bush appeals to all walks of life, city folk and country folk. Getting
Simoed in a swag is a challenge for all who own them. |
