History Behind Barn Abuse:
Barn abuse has only been brought to public attention recently by a very intelligent Sophomore studying home economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute during a bout of criticim aimed at her older cousin. This was the first known acknowledgement of the issue made public to multiple people who then formed the "Barn Abuse Action Resistance Force (BAARF) who sponsors this website.
The most common form of barn abuse being the casual pass by whiff is a minor and rarely addictive form of the abuse. This tends to happen on warm, humid summer days where the subject's automobile does not have a working air conditioner thereby forcing the subject to drive with their windows open for all scent to float in at will. To many people who experince this odor after they have mostly matured nasal sensitivity wise (about age 13-15 in most children) the odor is actually rather offensive and causes them to turn up their nose and pass the barn in a much faster manner. This form of abuse is not as worry some as other to be discussed further because it is such a passing and often rejecting form of abuse
The second tier of severness is the casual/social abuser. This type of person tends to only partake in the activity if someone they trust is doing it as well. Many times a youngster will use excuses such as, "I was only doing it because Johnny said it was cool," "I really didn't want to, but I was forced into it." This type of abuse can lead to even more dangerous levels of addiction. This is also the level where parents tend to get their own children involved in this horrible habit. When the child is young, the parent might occasionally take the child down to a barn to "see the horsey" or "play in the hay." These are key phrases that will alert a tentative parent that their mate is not only destructing his or her own life, but their offspring as well! Beware for this level is where the majority of people develop that habit of barn abuse.
The third level of abuse can be described as a full blown addiction. When this form is at its full blown stages the victim will start referring to himself/herself as one or more of the following : A Farmer, a rancher, a horse enthusiast, etc. This level is very dangerous to the health of the person because they are constantly battling the toxic fumes which draw them in! Once this level has been reached there is no therapy to relieve the person of his addiction. As the ole adage goes... "You can take the man out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the man!
