This is a book review about Gilly Hopkins.
By Sam I found The Great Gilly Hopkins to be a great book. It was full of attitude and love. From a scale of 1-10 10, being the highest, I would give this book a rating of an 8.5. It was a wonderful book! I think my favorite thing about this book, was that it showed that every person could change. I think my least favorite thing about this book was that Gilly was so mean to her “little brother.” I don’t think he deserved that. Katherine Paterson wrote the Great Gilly Hopkins. She had a dream of becoming a movie star, but instead she became a writer. She was once a teacher in Virginia. She now works as a writer in her own home wearing and doing whatever she pleases. She has her own way of writing her magnificent stories. Paterson says, “Eventually a character or characters will walk into my imagination and begin to take over my life. I'll spend the next couple of years getting to know them and telling their story. Then the joy of writing far outweighs the struggle, and I know beyond any doubt that I am the most fortunate person in the world to have been given such work to do.” The Great Gilly Hopkins is about a girl that is a foster child. She wants a home of her own. If only she could be with her mother, Courtney, instead of another ugly foster home. How is Gilly expected to tolerate her freaky foster brother, Maime Trotter, and a black man who loves poetry? At first Gilly despises them all, and slowly she is lured into their circle of love. Gilly is tough and can not accept that she can be loved. Some how Gilly has to think up a rescue. Her rescue doesn’t turn out the way she wanted, and she realizes she never really wanted to be rescued at all, she just wanted to be wanted. I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to every one who just enjoys a good book, because this book is meant for you! |

This is a book review on Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. Enjoy!
Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry was a great book! This story takes place in 1933 in Mississippi. It was about an ordinary family who is struggling to keep their land. But why is it so important to the family? It all takes place one night, with burnings, nightriders, and other spine chilling events. With out the land keeping them together, nothing can tear the Logans apart. The Logan family consists of Little Man, the youngest, Christopher-John, the second youngest, Cassie, the second oldest child, Stacey, the oldest child, Papa, Mama, Big Ma, and Uncle Hammer. The main character of this book is the only girl child of the Logan family, Cassie. Although, there is another main character that is Stacey’s friend, his name is T.J. Avery. He makes some bad choices in this book, but I won’t tell you all about him. He lies a lot. Cassie is a very sneaky, nosy, and sometimes angry girl. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest for how I liked the book I would give this book a 10. It was full love, excitement, confidence, and a little history. On a scale of 1-5 for difficulty of this book, I would give this book a 2 because it was fairly easy to read. The author of this book is Mildred D. Taylor. Mildred D. Taylor was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 13, 1943, but moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio, where she spent most of her childhood. She went to school, including College in Toledo. After she graduated from college she joined the Peace Corp and spent two years teaching English and History. At some point in her life she studied journalism at the University of Colorado, where she received her Master’s degree. At another point in her life she moved to Los Angeles and worked during the day and wrote at night. I think she was a great author! I hope you will read Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and enjoy it as much as I did! By: Sam Resources: www.google.com |

This is a book review on Romeo and Juliet. I hope it's useful!
Romeo And Juliet By: Sam I found Romeo and Juliet to be a great book, full of Romance, Danger, and Hate. It is about two families who both hate each other. (The Montagues and the Capulets.) Romeo is from Montague, and Juliet is from Capulet, both foes at first. Then they fall deeply in love and become married, but their parents don’t know. Then, their brief happiness is shattered by fate. What will happen to Romeo and Juliet? Find out and read this book. The book is mostly like a play, saying who the characters are, and who says what on each page. I had never read a book like that, so I found it quite interesting! William Shakespeare is the author of this book about these two star-crossed lovers. William Shakespeare was indeed lucky to survive to adulthood in sixteenth-century England. He had many other brothers and sisters, but most of them passed away at a young age. Shakespeare probably began his education at the age of six or seven at the Stratford grammar school. Shakespeare desired to marry a young girl named Anne. Those are just a few quick facts about, William Shakespeare. On a scale from 1-5, 5 being the most challenging to read this book, I would give this book a 5 because it was very hard to understand. This is probably because the book was in old English, so I was not used to that type of language. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being that I liked the book a lot, I would give this book a 7. I enjoyed this book, but found it very hard to understand, I also think that this book is just not my type of book that I like, but I still enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a romance book. This book would be perfect for you! Also if you like old English stories this would also be perfect for you. I hope you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did! Resources: www.google.com |
