As we all know, Rita Guerra will indeed represent Portugal in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest. The song which she will sing still has to be chosen. The Portguesse magazine "TV Guia", which is the most reliable source for information has wrote that Rita Guerra will actually perform in one of the galas of Operação Triunfo. Songs can be submitted by any Portuguesse citizen in the next couple of weeks. From all the submissions, 3 songs will be chosen by an internal jury which Rita will then perform on Operação Triunfo where the winner will be announced. At the moment it is not yet known how the winning song will be chosen, either through SMS, jury, televoting or a mixture.
Day by day it is looking more likely that Rita Guerra will indeed represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003. Since the Portuguesse OT will not choose the performer and no national final looks to be held this year then Rita can be almost confirmed of this honour. It is not yet known how the song will be chosen for Rita, whether it will be by an internal jury or televoting but the most likely one is by an internal jury.
After much speculation in the Portguesse camp RTP have decided to go ahead with Operação Triunfo. The show was close to being cancelled due to a change in the board of directors at RTP and financial problems within the company. Although Operação Triunfo will still go ahead it will start at a much later date in January instead of September as was first thought.
RTP will start the portuguese version of Operação Triunfo in September that in Spain made records of audiences never thought to happen. Every week 16 people will sing a cover of a well-known song. After they have all sung the panel of experts will decide which two have not sung to their best potential, these two are then up for a public vote. During the beginning of the next weeks show the results of the telephone vote shall be announced. The singer with the least amount of votes shall be dropped from the competition. This process will be repeated week after week until only 3 of the 16 people are left. These 3 people will be the overall winners and will record the song that will represent Portugal in next years Eurovision Song Contest.
