"Where the "in" crowd goes out!"
Barnstable High 1978 Summer 2006 Newsletter

1. We have counted 10 new email addresses that have been added to the class memeber list in the last 30 days or so. An all time record as the website enters its 3rd year of existence. You pay a hefty fee to be a Gold Member over at Classmates.com to get email access but here all you have to do is have a pulse and a computer with internet access and you are "golden". Spread the word so we can get more people on board and check out the
1978 Class Blog for updates, stories and photos that are sent in.

2. The Barnstable Town Newsletter lists the following teachers as retiring as of June 2006:
Peter Auger, Lenore Frew, Irene Aylmer, Kenneth Gavin, M. Jewel Blake, Carol Gordon , Margaret Chapman, Barbara Harrington, Jane Charette, Paul LaBouliere , Kathleen Cronin, James LeClair, Karen Darrah, Patricia Lindsley, Susan Ellis, Susan Logan-Malizia, Janet Evans, Brenda Teleen, Katherine Foley, Trudy Whelan.

The familiar names being Auger who taught in the Science Department while we were at BHS and LaBouliere who was the Accounting teacher in our era as well. Mrs Frew was a teacher during our incarceration at the Osterville 6th Grade school where they bussed all the kids from Centerville and Hyannis due to overcrowding in the village classrooms. The suburban Centerville-ites were preyed upon by the city slickers from Hyannis who by 6th grade were carrying brass knuckles, rolling papers and switchblades to school. A definite culture shock!

4. We have had some contributions to the website pictures section. Pic one is of the 2006 BHS Pub Crawl on July21st. Classes of 1978, 1982 and 1984 were represented. The group photo was taken at Hooters of Hyannis. Other stops were 19th Hole Bar, Fair Ketch, Duck Inn Pub, Elbow Room, Gringos, and Jacks Lounge. Pic 2 of the alma mater was submitted by 82 Grad Rob Hampton who was on vacation from the production company he owns in Hollywood called Splat Pictures. Pic 3 is a Barnstable trivia challenge. Name the location of the Indian and send your answer to
barnstable1978@hotmail.com Answer will be disclosed in the next action packed newsletter! Click Here to go to the picture page.

5- This years annual pilgrimmage to Baxters Fish and Chips did not let anyone down when it came to "sticker shock". A scallop roll, lobster roll and a clam roll with 3 Coca Colas tallied in at $71.30. The Cokes are bottomless which eases some of the pain. We also put a dollar in the counter college fund tip jar. To take the edge off apres lunch a few cold drafts hit the spot at Hyannis hidden jewel Trader Ed's Pool Bar. Although finding out the barmaid graduated from BHS 24 years after we did makes you realize the number of Summers we have left to enjoy in life are drying up fast. What did Jack Dawson say in Titanic..."Make it count!"..that is good advice. Especially if you are going to freeze to death in the North Atlantic later in the script.

6. Has anyone spotted any celebrities on the Cape this Summer? A worker at Four Seas Ice Cream had a confirmed sighting of Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon at that location. Frat Pack Superstar Luke Wilson of Old School and Anchorman fame was spotted on Marthas Vineyard. Speaking of Anchormen I was working at a store in 1978 and Tom Ellis now of NECN came in to buy Tums. He has to be 134 years old but he is still on the air. Enjoy the rest of the Summer people !!!!!
