Role in Barrelhouse |
Bill's Role |
As I see things, I've probably got the most freedom to add color to the tunes - which suits me fine. The harmony leads I play with Dale and Kelvin, having three instruments to take leads, having acoustic guitar with electric on some tunes, and an improving vocal capability are all coming together to set Barrelhouse apart from the usual fare. My role is to add whatever the song needs... and to bring energy to the stage. |
Favorite Barrelhouse Song |
Whatever's going over well on a given night. You have to play to your crowd. I like the songs that show our versatility, like Rain Down on Me or Jessica, and I also like one's that just plain rock out, which is most of 'em. |
Favorite Barrelhouse Show |
Favorite Barrelhouse Experience |
Seeing and hearing the gradual improvement in the band over time. I'd like to tip my hat to Kevin Fabbi, our soundman, as I think he's really helped us to come together to put on a better show. |
Best Band of All Time |
Don't really have one favorite. I like all kinds of music, like Free, Steve Earle, Little Feat..... Right now I'm really into the new Audioslave record. |
Best Concert of All Time |
Wow. I've been to over a hundred concerts, at a guess. Some of the best ones were Jeff Beck at the O'Keefe in '74, Aerosmith at MLG in '77, Neil Young at Wonderland in '85 and Lucinda Williams at Bluesfest 2002. |
Other Bands/Musicians of Interest |
All of it, really. You have to take your inspiration from everything going on around you, musical and otherwise. |
Other Interests and Hobbies |
I like to be active. Play tennis, bike, ski and so on. I also like to get out, have a good time, meet people and enjoy what life has to offer. You only go around once, might as well rock out while you can! |
Music Gear used in Barrelhouse |
I primarily play a Fender Stratocaster and a Gibson ES335 through a Fender Deville 4X10 combo and a Marshall tube combo amp. I'm always looking for a better sound so it's liable to change at a moments notice. For acoustic I've got a beat up old Takamine that I still like to play (whenever Dale won't lend me his Taylor). |
Worst Barrelhouse Experience |
After the last O'Shack show, I was fooling around and I ended up hurting my left hand. It was weeks before I could play comfortably afterwards. Maybe I should grow up sometime! On second thought...nah - there's no fun in that! |
Inspiration to Play Guitar |
That's easy - my brother brought home some Led Zeppelin one day in 1968. I was 8 years old and it blew me away!! It's been downhill ever since! |
I really enjoyed the ALS Fundraiser and the Pembroke Fair gigs. Whenever the band is tight, and the crowd is with it, it can be magical. |
