Jim's Role
They want me to do some general percussion, some vocals and play sax - so why did I take all those bass lessons?   And no - I'm never putting on a suit for a gig ever again!

Inspiration to play Percussion
I had to think hard about this one (I almost got a blasted headache).  Aside from banging on the pots and pans back home as a kid, I guess any inspiration for doing percussion musta come from the great Latin percussion players (like Tedo Puente) and also Frank Zappa's
players (Ed Mann, Ruth Underwood).

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed by the Allman Brothers Band is my favorite because it's got it all - complex melodies, interesting time changes, inventive solos and lots of room for creative percussion.
Easy - the Halloween gig we did last year at Tuscons - if you haven't experienced the annual Halloween Bash that Tucson's throws, you've really missed out on something fun!  It's definitely a night like no other - a "must be experienced" night for sure! And we're back for the 2005 Tucon's Halloween Bash so I'll get to do it all over again!
On stage at the Ottawa Super Ex - we played there last year and that was the first time since I had joined the band that we finally got to play on a stage that was big enough to allow me to bring out most of my percussion gear.  With so many members and so much gear in this band, it can be really tough finding any spare room on stage - I typically have to travel with only a portion of my gear....so the Super Ex was great fun!!
I've got too much to describe, but here's a quick summary - LP Patato model conga and tumba (the bigger one) - timbales - a rack of cowbells - LP
woodblocks - a Zildjan 5" splash - a Paragon snare for occasional use - various tambourines, shakers, and a vibraslap - and then there's the Jupiter alto sax and the Yamaha tenor sax.  If I get any more stuff, I'm gonna need a bigger car to haul it around in..!!
Never had a bad day with this band...
The many incarnations of Frank Zappa's band
Zappa at the Montreal Forum,1983 (although Dave Mathews and Bela fleck was a close second - that was at the Corel
Center)
'Modern' orchestral music (Edgar Varese,Shonebeg) Jazz saxophonist
Micheal Brecker..(or locally, Jason Scott of The Crowd etc., Monster Tenor sax Player!!)
Long driving trips with my wife and kids, often ending up at our cottage, there I can forget about the realities of work and focus on the increasing ringing in my ears (clues: because its QUIET there, and 25 years of rock and roll has its price!)
