AI Trials using Frozen Semen from USA Poitou Jack! |
First and foremost, we must acknowledge that without the time, effort and contributions of Hamilton Rare Breeds Foundation, this trial would not have been done. HRBF shipped frozen semen from their young baudet Jolycouer to the Assenerie in France. From there, a jennet named Galaxy became the "star" in an ground-breaking event. The first ever trial sing frozen semen from the USA. Previous efforts for insemination using frozen semen in France have not been successful. However, the vet in charge of the proceedure, Dr. Videman, stated this was some of the best she'd seen. Pat Hastings, farm manager for HRBF, carried out the actual insemination under the watchful eye of Dr's Videman and Martin, both of whom work with the Poitou donkey directly in France. Everyone keep their fingers crossed for an update in 16 days - when they will tell us GOOD news.....as we fervently hope that Galaxy is indeed in foal!!! |
