TeresaD: look in the font menu, renata
AntoniaM: hallo, it feels like a while...I've been 'away'!..
DafneG: and get larger fonts
EvaW: larger text
RenataS: aha, you have tokeep repeatedly clicking on the larger fonts
button in the action menu
DafneG: but you are finally, back with us, Antonia :-)
RenataS: i thought you could only do it once
AntoniaM: yes, good to be here daf!
TeresaD: nice to have you back, antonia!

EvaW: in my window it remains large renata
RenataS: thank you daf and eva
TeresaD: well, daf and michael, i think i'll put up my intro of
michael
RenataS: now i have clicked about four times on large font
RenataS: and have a decent size
DafneG: yes, go ahead, tere
AgataZ: when you click twice it becomes huge, Renata
FionaL joined the room.
TeresaD: welcome fiona
DafneG: hello Fiona
RenataS: that has been a problem for me all aloong at tapped in
RenataS: thank you for the help
FionaL: hi everyone
DafneG -)
RenataS: is there any way to make it bold?
AntoniaM: Hi fiona!
TeresaD: well, ladies and gentlemen :-) i think it's time
we start.
EvaW: it is fun playing with the fonts... :-)
MichaelDK: Whenever you are ready Teresa
RenataS: i have a heavy astigmatism and am short sighted
ButhainaA joined the room.
TeresaD: so i'll just introduce michael and he can take the floor
MichaelDK: Since there is a Web page to guide people, i think
latecomers will be OK
RenataS: this spidery stuff first thing kills me
ButhainaA: Hello all, sorry I'm late!
Teresa introduces Michael
TeresaD: I'd like to introduce Michael Krauss, a colleague and
friend, with whom I took my first online course ever, titled
Integrating the Internet in the Classroom (http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/usia/home.html).
TeresaD: As I said in a message some days back, Michael started me in
this world of online exercise making, giving me a totally different
perspective of the Internet. So he's partly responsible for
having whet my appetite to join the Webheads in Action EVO session in
Jan 2002.
TeresaD: Michael has not only produced a very significant number of
resources, but has also collected extremely useful resources, very
well organized, and available to all in his many Web pages.
TeresaD: Michael, thank you for having accepted our invitation to be
here this evening with our BaW participants. The floor is yours!
:-)
IsabelP joined the room.
RenataS: where is bob?
TeresaD: welcome isabel! :-)
SusanneN joined the room.
MichaelDK: Thanks Teresa
IsabelP: hi everyone , a bit late
KarenGar applauds
DafneG: hi Isabel
MichaelDK: Thanks to all for coming. I know it's late for some
and very early for others.
ShuniI: Michael Krauss
SusanneN sits down to listen for a while
AntoniaM antonia applauds too!
MichaelDK: I feel somewhat a stranger in a family setting.
LuisaRo joined the room.
DafneG: feel at home, Michael
AntoniaM can't remember to forget to type her own name1:)
TeresaD sits back and listens to michael
A very nice word from Michael to the moderators
MichaelDK: My Kudos to the moderators for having such as successful
session
SusanneN hands Micahel a Webheads cap
RenataS: hear hear
MichaelDK: and for cultivating a great atmosphere!
TeresaD: thanks you, michael. it's very sweet of you :-)
AntoniaM have a blanket Micheal, i think its cold in a lot of places!
Michael formally begins the session by referring the structure
he has in mind
MichaelDK: In order to make the session run a little smoother
MichaelDK: I have a structure in mind.
ElizabethH joined the room.
KarenGar . o O ( that's the trick )
MichaelDK: There is a Web page to look at and I have some time
suggestions for looking at it
TeresaD: welcome, elizabeth
ButhainaA: Michael, thanks for the brilliant ideas on your webPage;
very inspiring, particularly those of Quia!
MichaelDK: and also for Q & A at certain times
MichaelDK: Thanks!
ButhainaA: welcome
MichaelDK: Here's my idea
ElizabethH: Michael--could you put the URL here again so that it
appears in the transcript? Thanx
DafneG: that sound great
TeresaD: no url yet, eliz
RenataS: webpage? can we open the browser simultaneously
EvaW left the room (signed off).
EvaW joined the room.
RenataS: do you use / and project?
TeresaD: yes, reanta
MichaelDK: 10 minutes for introduction and description of the
first two items on the Web page
MichaelDK: 10 minutes for you to explore the first two items on the
Web page
MichaelDK: 5-10 minutes to come back for a Q and A about the resources
you examined
MichaelDK: 5 minutes to intro the next three items on the Web page
MichaelDK: 15 minutes for you to explore the second set of resources
MichaelDK: remainder of time for more Q and A + general schmoozing.
RenataS: oh god what web page???
RenataS: feel like i'm losing it already
SusanneN: yes, Reanat, it will open if you click it in another window,
once you get the URL typed in here
MichaelDK: I've not put up the URL yet so you all won't flake out and
leave me!
EvaW left the room (signed off).
EvaW joined the room.
EvaW left the room (signed off).
TeresaD: lol
GregK: ah, never
AgataZ: lol
MariaJ joined the room.
DafneG: we will behave
SaraMa: that's a good strategy Michael...you're getting all of our
attention
EvaW joined the room.
GeorginaN: indeed
MariaJ: Hi
MichaelDK: Please keep in mind that I come from a content based
philosophy
DafneG: hi maria
AgataZ: probably
TeresaD: welcome maria
MariaJ: sorry for the delay
RenataS: trying to make a not e of the times
RenataS: only the screen moves up so fast
JeanMC joined the room.
MichaelDK: I have tried to give you samples of student and teacher
work tied to specific courses.
RenataS: i've lost them....
MichaelDK: Because we're running a little behind schedule, I'll turn
you loose.
RenataS: is there someway to highlight the teacher words
RenataS: for scrolling back to check easily?
MichaelDK: Please have a look at the first two sites and come back
after ten mintues.
EvaW: ok, see you in ten minutes
SaraMa: ok
DafneG: use the send to pasteboard feature in the menu, renata
MichaelDK: These projects assume some Web skills on the part of
the teacher.
AntoniaM left the room.
MichaelDK: Here's the url
KarenGar: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/evonline2004/onlinematerials.html
GeorginaN: thanks
AntoniaM joined the room.
MichaelDK: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/evonline2004/onlinematerials.html
TeresaD: thanks, michael
KarenGar . o O ( opps... )
BabiC joined the room.
AntoniaM hallo again, not sure ehere i went then...interesting...
SusanneN: starts reading the page and plan to look back in five to ten
minutes
TeresaD: look at culture capsules and hatchet, right, michael?
MichaelDK: right
MichaelDK: about 10 minutes would be good.
AntoniaM: ok, cult caps & hatch it is !
KarenGar: what should we do now?
MichaelDK: Have a look at http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/evonline2004/onlinematerials.html
TeresaD: take a look at items 1 & 2, karen
MichaelDK: first two activities
ButhainaA: Michael, where do you teach? in UAE?
MichaelDK: I'm in Portland, Oregon
ButhainaA: some students with Arabic names !
MichaelDK: Yes, we used to have many!
ButhainaA: oh, and those are international Ss ..ok, I c
MichaelDK: Alas, not so much anymore!
RenataS: ok, ihave the url in my browser now, click on one and two,
right?
ButhainaA: interesdting
MichaelDK: That's right
RenataS: ty ty
RenataS: making a folder before i read
RenataS: i am slow....
RenataS: newbie syndrome
KarenGar: Notice the Required Text and Materials:
KarenGar: Buy your text in class the first day.
KarenGar: Macintosh HD disk. Buy a new one for this class. PC disk is
*NOT * ACCEPTABLE.
KarenGar: Note: Materials fee = $10. Lab fee = $10. Please pay the
instructor.
RenataS: to bookmark
MariaJ: don't worry,Renata, It's normal...
ButhainaA: I have created several vocab. exercises for one of my
classes, Micahel, and they all have disappaered because becasue I
didn't renew my membership! Is there a way to get them back, Michael?
KarenGar: Is this an online activity?
MichaelDK: Wow, was that using Quia?
ButhainaA: yes, Quia, like the one Michael used beautifully with his
students
MichaelDK: The students created the Culture Capsules to go online.
ButhainaA: Michael, any idea?
AntoniaM: The writing activities & the students' work are great
Micheal, very inspiring and all integrated into a website which is
both professional yet personalised :)
KarenGar: can someone explain what Quia is?
MichaelDK: I'm afraid they are gone if the trial period ended
ButhainaA: I have written to Quia, though, but no reply from them yet
MichaelDK: They are usually pretty helpful.
ButhainaA: oh, I spent hours and hours , it's unfair1
AntoniaM: Is Quia necessary to use the activities on youer site?
MichaelDK: yes, definitely
EvaW: michael, could you briefly explain what you understand by a
culture capsule?
ButhainaA: But I should say it's worth paying for an account with
Quia..
MichaelDK: A partner project where students create a Web page together
on a topic from their culture.
EvaW: thanks!
MichaelDK: Your welcome!
MichaelDK: oops typo again.
AntoniaM: Micheal do your own st's work in pairs or do they pair up
with st's from wanother part of the world?
MichaelDK: Quia is definitely worth the money, especially since
teachers can share one account
MichaelDK: In this project, they pair up in class.
GregK: I used Michael's culture capsule idea when I taught with him a
few years back. It's a great activity, and students enjoy it.
SaraMa: I've really liked the culture capsules idea , specially to
work in e-pal exchanges. I think such work is really stimulating for
students
IsabelP: I think culture cupsule is a great idea to do with group of
students that come from different cultures and also for e-mail
projects
TeresaD: i love the comparison/contrast idea. it has such interesting
results
AntoniaM: Mmmm...I had a look at Quia and already i think will
persuade my HOD to get it, only $49 or something...
RenataS: are ten minutse up yet??
MichaelDK: Just about
ButhainaA: I like the cultural capsula very much Michael..could tell
us more about it, please.
RenataS: i need a stopwatch,,,,,
SaraMa: But so you really think Quia is worth paying for?
MichaelDK: More on that later--quia that is.
EvaW: yes, I'd love to hear more on culture capsule too
MichaelDK: On the Web page, there are complete lessons for you to do
CC project if you like.
AntoniaM: I did when i'd looked Sarah, I'll soon sign up for the trial
membrdhp which is a whole month..
MichaelDK: There are templates for the Web pages.
DafneG: I saw that, that is very kind of you Michael
MichaelDK: If you have basic html or Web editor skills, you can do it.
AntoniaM: Yes I saw the templates in Quia and loads of other stuff!
SusanneN: is everyone back from reading break?
GeorginaN: Michael, are you saying there are templates for those
webpages with Quia?
LuisaRo: yes
TeresaD: the topics for the CC are fascinating
MichaelDK: No, some people jumped ahead to Quia, but that's alittle
later.
GeorginaN: ok
SaraMa: I also liked very much the Hatchet project. Students do not
usually get very involved with reading assignments, so it's a great
way ta make them really involved with the reading task
RenataS: is there a buzz function so you buzz us so we know times up?
RenataS: i worry about being back ontime so i can't concentrate on
reading
SaraMa: I mean if they are producing something that can be seen by
other people
DafneG: I like the inclusion of pics within the reading
SusanneN: you cannot herd online cats, Michael, they may stroll in all
directions but will come back when they're hungry for more
MichaelDK: Hatchet was a team endeavor between the reading teacher and
me (in my computer applications course)
LeahS left the room (signed off).
AntoniaM: I 'spose you could make yr own for any kinda novel or text
(hatcjhet that is)?
LeahS joined the room.
RenataS: wb leah
GeorginaN: yes I really like that..I work with students with very low
iteracy..that'd be great
SusanneN: Renata,m stop worrying and enjoy the flow
MichaelDK: I'm just a frustrated herder I guess.
RenataS: hello, how is the time scheme
SaraMa: lol Michael
RenataS: please don't tell me to stop worrying sus, it doesn't help me
RenataS: i am worrying
DafneG: he he
TeresaD: renata, you can always come back to the materials
ElizabethH: I liked the Culture Capsules very much, as it makes a good
Advanced Writing project--actually
MichaelDK: These first two projects require some Web building skill on
the teacher's part
ElizabethH: you can adapt to the level of the students.
ButhainaA: No, I had a look at Mocvhael's webpage this morning, this
is why I had Quiza in my mind
TeresaD: definitely, eliz
IsabelP: Michael, how long does a CC take ?
RenataS: when is the ten minutes up please?
MichaelDK: Actually, I've done CC with low intermediates to advanced
TeresaD: now, renata
RenataS: how will i know when it is time to focus on the chat screen
again
AntoniaM: Your projects are also good for ESL st's with good ICT
skills...mine have a knowledge of web-building -basic
MichaelDK: CC takes about 3 weeks meeting 5 hours/week
RenataS: i have lost track of the time schedule please help me
ButhainaA: But I am updating pages for my c-lab tomorrow and I
would like to integrate something CC porjects.
ElizabethH: You could have the students determine the content--I do a
similar paper after a reading in our course book.
MichaelDK: But this includes an oral presentation using the CC as a
visual aid at the end of the project.
KarenGar: could'nt you use blogs for these activities?
ElizabethH: Having the Webpage templates makes it quicker.
AntoniaM: that's a good idea karen, i wonder...
SaraMa: That's a great idea Karen
TeresaD: i don't think it would produce the same effect, karen
KarenGar . o O ( I am still trying to figure out what a blog is... )
JeanMC: Renata, you can have the windows of Michael's pages smaller
and see what is going on in TI at the same time
GregK: Are your students using Dreamweaver now to create the pages, or
do they use Claris Home page for some?
SaraMa: Why not? I mean they could use blogs to comment on the things
they are discovering
TeresaD: a blog could be used to prepare the materials
SaraMa: And to ask people for feedback on their topic...
MichaelDK: We use Dreamweaver. I still use Claris Home Page a
lot but it's no longer available nor supported.
ShuniI: Webpage template for student to use, a great idea, Elizabeth.
TeresaD: yes, sara. i agree. but not to have the whole project
together, i don't think
MichaelDK: I love it as a teaching tool, so that's too bad it was
discontinued.
ButhainaA: oh, I sse, Michael, but I am having ny general english
class in mind , they us eNorth Star and with a simple CC version maybe
gonna be great , what do you think..can we do it in a simple way for
them, Michael?
AntoniaM: Eventually I 'sode we'll integrate all these forms of media
for learning, the software 'll get easier 'n easier to use?...
ElizabethH: Blogs could be used for free
writing/brainstorming/exploring ideas in collaboration, but the paper
needs to be a real academic paper for the course intended here.
TeresaD: that's what i meant, eliz.
GeorginaN: can you use images in many blogs?
IsabelP: I agree with you Eliz
SaraMa: Well, perhaps is because I'm thinking of secondary school
students...
ButhainaA: Elizabeth, do you recommend a certain Web template? I tried
the one used by Aiden, but it has a lot of work, relativley for
students to do..
ElizabethH: I think Netscape Composer is easy, as it is WYSIWYG, and
it's free.
MichaelDK: Well, shall we move on to the next samples of online
resources?
ShuniI: Listening to Elizabeth.
TeresaD: yes, michael
AntoniaM: I'm ready Micheal!:)
ElizabethH: Once you make a few pages in Composer, you can use them
over and over as "templates."
DafneG: yes
MichaelDK: I'll briefly describe before you take off again.
ButhainaA: but, we don't use a lot in Kuwait , lately,
elizabeth..neither in our c-lab
SusanneN: For a good blog with images I recommend www.tabulas.com
SusanneN: Ok, ready for next stop, in Michael, s page
GeorginaN: thankyou
MichaelDK: #3 is a Web activity that derives from your March
reading
TeresaD listens to michael
MichaelDK: You've likely heard of hotlists and treasure hunts and
WebQuests
BabiC: yes
AntoniaM: Uh, uh,
GeorginaN: yes
MariaJ: yes
EvaW nods
KarenGar nods
MichaelDK: These are Web activities that I think make
excellent use of the Internet
ButhainaA: yes, michael
MichaelDK: They could be hard to design on your own.
MichaelDK: So I've given examples that were designed with 'click n
build' resources
AntoniaM: Ye s& time consuming, i have so little (time!)
MichaelDK: You enter content and WEb pages are built for you.
MichaelDK: Teresa took an online class with me
IsabelP: yes it's very time consuming specially webquests
KarenGar: where, where??
BabiC: is it Filamentality?
MichaelDK: We built these types of activities using Filamentality
AntoniaM: sounds great micheal!
TeresaD: i was going to say that i used them during your course
MichaelDK: Have a look at the samples in #3 and you'll get an idea how
to use this resource.
ButhainaA: Michael they are time really time consuming, you are very
good to accomplish this work, I have plenty of incomplete work of most
of them..
KarenGar: a treasure hunt?
MichaelDK: #4 is a way to post student writing with click 'n build
MichaelDK: and #5 isQuia, the whiz bang of all online activity
creators in my book.
SusanneN looks at #3 and #4 and willbe back soon
MichaelDK: So, go have a look and we'll convene in 10-15 minutes.
LeahS: Okay, got it
GeorginaN: right
EvaW goes off hunting treasures
ButhainaA: oh, thanks, Michael, this is a good way for us to follow
from the tapped in transcript later.
AntoniaM: F f prej is quite blog-like or forum-like?
RenataS: back at 5:50
SusanneN asks for a quick cup of coffee
RenataS smiles
AgataZ: Quia is not free, right? How about the Project Poster?
MichaelDK sighs and wants caffeine too.
MichaelDK: Poster is free
KarenGar: where, where???
LeahS left the room (signed off).
AgataZ eats chocolates
MichaelDK: Quia can be shared by many teachers
AntoniaM: have a coffee sweet micheal, I'm addicted to them!
LeahS joined the room.
MichaelDK grabs one and gobbles
BabiC: where's Project Poster?
Exercises created by different participants
TeresaD: this sampler template is what i used to create my simple
'visiting kenya' exercise
MichaelDK: That's a great one--Teresa, wish I had your url for
it to post.
TeresaD: just a sec, mike
ElizabethH . o O ( pours Sus some caffe )
MichaelDK: Wish I had your url Teresa to post your sampler.
LeahS: I'm sorry, I can't scroll back to get the URL, what is it
again?
BabiC: Oh, I got it.
MichaelDK: Wish I had your URL to post your Sampler Teresa.
AntoniaM: Filamentality loks fascinating! never heard of it
before...but I don't know much :)
MichaelDK: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/evonline2004/onlinematerials.html
LeahS: thanks...see you
TeresaD: let's see if this tiny url works, mike
TeresaD: http://tinyurl.com/36nyr
GregK: Michael, I'm wondering if Poster Project or Quia tools could
also be used by students to create the CC and Hatchet exercises, a
simpler alternative for students who are not actually in a
"computer applications" ESL class?
MichaelDK: Good question Greg
MichaelDK smiles
GregK: ;-)
ButhainaA: Teresa can we see Kenya's URL, please?
TeresaD: http://tinyurl.com/36nyr
TeresaD: i think the tiny url works, buth
MichaelDK: Yes, PP could be used, though links would come at end of
text.
LeahS left the room (signed off).
MichaelDK: Quia too could be used, the Class Pages feature.
Again, links would be at end, unless you showed students how to add
them elsewhere with html
TeresaD: does it open, buth?
GregK: hmm. not as good at end of text.
ButhainaA: Michael, where can we create Hatchet, please/
ElizabethH: The problem with Filamentality as in these examples is
that the teacher does all the work. It would be nice to have the
students do them after seeing an example.
TeresaD: buth, did the tiny url work?
ButhainaA: one sec Tere, plz
TeresaD: ok
KarenGar: Is there an url for Quia?
MichaelDK: Hatchet needs some Web skills - students use my templates
and a Web editor.
ButhainaA: Yes, perfect Tere thanks
EvaW: didn't work here
EvaW: ok, I'll try again
SusanneN agree with Eliza
ElizabethH: Michael--where do students write their answers to your
questions? A Word doc, or?
AgataZ: nor here
ButhainaA: but where do you create it Michael?
TeresaD: just a sec. i'll give you the looong url
TeresaD: http://web.archive.org/web/20021221183755/http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/pages/samtravellite.html
ButhainaA: what do you use,Michael?
MichaelDK: THe Prejudice Sampler contains email fields--they are
emailed to me
LeahS joined the room.
AntoniaM: Lovely stuff terre!
TeresaD: i got it at the internet archive. it's no longer up
KarenGar: http://www.quia.com/web
SaraMa: I guess Filamentality allows forms usage to answer questions
EvaW: sorry, I can't click the URL
EvaW: something wrong here...
ElizabethH . o O ( nods )
BabiC: it works for me. cool.
TeresaD: eva, try it when you get the log, ok? :-)
MichaelDK: But they could use Word and email as attachment or
whatever.
ElizabethH: Eva--be patient--it takes a little time to open.
MichaelDK: Your point about students doing thework is great.
MichaelDK: That's why I put up the Quia example page made by a
student.
EvaW: no it works, typo....
AntoniaM: Oh & filamentality has loads of stuff to see created by
teachers..!
MichaelDK: And students could use Filamentality too.
EvaW o O (should be more patient)
TeresaD: yes, antonia
RenataS: back, wow this is great
RenataS: i love the monkeys
ButhainaA: Tere, I remembered your Filamentality, yes , it is very
impressive..how long does it take Tere, to comlete it/
TeresaD: i don't remember, buth. :-(
TeresaD: not at all
BabiC: you wanna see mine?
SaraMa: One silly question. Does filamentality allow you to have the
activities hosted t your own server?
ElizabethH: So Filamentality has the e-mail forms too?
AntoniaM: i like 'surch & lurch' - that's me!
TeresaD: i don't think so, sara
ButhainaA: np, Tere
MichaelDK: No, Fil. pages are hosted on their server--
MichaelDK: I guess you could ask permission to host a page you make on
your own.
TeresaD: mike, do you think i can create a link to the internet
archive URL?
ButhainaA: Yes, please BabiC
TeresaD: shouldn't be any problem, right???
AntoniaM: Is fil a bit like geocities...they have student projects...?
MichaelDK: No, Fil. doesn't have email forms. I tweaked the
Prejudice Sampler.
ElizabethH: Copy and paste the HTML into Composer and upload to your
own site?
DafneG: I like the monkey lesson
ElizabethH . o O ( good going, MK! )
DafneG: had never heard of monkey bread
MichaelDK: No problem that I can see Teresa
ButhainaA: Vance did very useful projects with Filamentality for his
UAE students last summer
TeresaD: that's what i'm going to do, mike
IsabelP: You can save it and upload it to your site Sara
BabiC: I have two at my site, but I didn't make them with Fil. I found
it too complicated... :-) Simple is comlicated for me :-))) The
address is: http://invitel.hu/ecsibi/
SaraMa: But is it free (Fil) or do you have to pay as in quia?
MichaelDK: Fil is free.
ElizabethH: May I copy your code for the e-mailer, Michael?
IsabelP: it's not a problem as it is not server dependent
ShuniI: I always preferred Filamentality to Webquests.
SaraMa: Yes, now I heard forms were not part of the process but
Michael's addon I guess you can have it anywhere
KarenGar . o O ( humm )
RenataS: michael you have made an impressive selection of expamles
MichaelDK: With Fil, you can make Hotlist, Sampler, Tr. Hunt or
WebQuest
DafneG: so many things to see, and links to explore
RenataS: thank you
SaraMa: Eliz the emailer uses server cgi
TeresaD: absolutely! lots of homework ;-)
SaraMa: Or doesn't it Michael?
RenataS: i wonder how much your summer courses cost.....
MichaelDK: Mailer code I got from IT here on campus. Just
inserted it in form fields within my Web editor.
MichaelDK: yes, it's a cgi script
ElizabethH: Csibi--I love the Pirate Quest--and it would be neat to
then see Pirates of the Caribbean
SaraMa: But it points at a form mail cgi Iguess, hosted at campus
server
MichaelDK: All materials from the online course I teach are available
--you don't have to take the course
BabiC: Eli, sorry, THAT's the only link that disappeared from the web.
I'm working on it.
DafneG: with bravenet you can get e-mail forms on your web page
MichaelDK: Also, before you leave, have a look at the ESL Independent
Study Lab in additional resources section.
IsabelP: thanks Michael
MichaelDK: It's a hobby of mine and I love people to use it.
SusanneN: Micheal, your Open Course content model is similar to what
they do at MIT
SaraMa: Michael have you taught Action Mazes at your courses. I'm
highly interested in that
MichaelDK: Yes, I've done action mazes
MichaelDK: Do you know Quandary
MichaelDK: Same author as Hot Potatoes
SaraMa: yes, I'm a teacher trainer too and I've used it with teachers
attending courses
MariaJ: Yes, Michael, but I hve never used it...
DafneG: Quandary is wonderful, too
MichaelDK: Here's a page on how students can use Quandary along with
some cool things they produced.
EvaW: is it also free as HotPot?
SaraMa: They've created some good ones, in a collaborative way with
Quandary
FernandaR joined the room.
MichaelDK: But Quandary costs $50.
MichaelDK: Let me get the URL quick.
SaraMa: But it's free with less than 12 decision points
DafneG: hi Fernanda
ElizabethH . o O ( thanks, Daf--just started building my bravenet
page! )
FernandaR: I'm sorry... i forgot about the session... it was dinner
time
MariaJ: so, it is not too expensive....but, they have a demo, isn't
it?
SusanneN looks at the INdependent study lab -for a person like
myself, that's a perfect name
RenataS: is the fifty dollars once for forever, or renewable
subscription
MichaelDK: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/quandarytasks/home.html
SaraMa: We used a free version and each teacher created a bit of a
huge action maze
DafneG: I think Fernanda has worked with Quandary, right, Fern?
MichaelDK: That's student's Quandary Projects plus lessons on how to
do it.
LeahS: thank you
FernandaR: no, not really... it is in my plans to try it, but I never
did
GeorginaN: great
SaraMa: I'm posting some links for you to see my teacher-students'
work...
MichaelDK: Here's Independent Study Lab URL
MichaelDK: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/toppicks/toppicks.html
DafneG: someone has a Thaksgiving quandary which is really good
MariaJ: Yes, I saw that... it is very good
ElizabethH: I just was thinking about how to do a jumbled paragraph
with Quandry--Sara--you did one already?
DafneG: mabye Glennis
FernandaR: I created a web adventure that I think could be done
with quandary, but I used dreamweaver to do it
MichaelDK: Sara--collaborative project with Quandary sounds cool
SaraMa: http://www.terra.es/personal6/jjflorido/materialasist/ghosttown.htm
ShuniI: toppicks/toppicks.html
RenataS: if i make an activity in hot potatoes or quandary is it only
to be used online?
AntoniaM: The Study Lab looks very comprehensive...
ElizabethH: Yes, Glenys
SaraMa: That's the first one we created
RenataS: not all my students have web access
FernandaR: mine is about thanksgiving
DafneG: HP can be taken to CD, renata
BabiC: you can print hotpot activities too
RenataS: can i make things to be printed out and done with a pencil?
SaraMa: And this year it was a new
one...http://www.elrebumbio.org/lostintime/lost.htm
FionaL: HI
MichaelDK: These resources are all making activities that end up
online.
SaraMa: Each teacher created a bit and I put them together
MichaelDK: Here's a page that includes some good resources to make
paper based activities.
BabiC: But Hot Potatoes activities can be printed!
AntoniaM: Renata i could send you links for printables if you
like...:)
MichaelDK: http://www.lclark.edu/~krauss/call/webtraining.html

ButhainaA: I have created one on first aid but can't find it..
MichaelDK: Are 50+ year old eyes slower than 20's?
MichaelDK blinks and rubs his eyes
TeresaD: probably, mike ;-)
JeanMC: I am so amazed to see how many possibilities we have for
creating activities online and outline with the use of tehcnology
SaraMa: I'm a great fan of Michael anyway. Always link his work for
people attending my courses. Hope you don't mind Michael
DafneG: mine are working fine
