BECOMING A WEBHEAD

TESOL EVONLINE 2004

January 26 - March 6

Welcome message week 4

,  Dear webheads, webheads-to-be, and friends, yes, after these three weeks together I can say that some of us have created bonds that allow me to call them friends and I am sure that in the following week there will be many more in that list :-)

We have finished an active week in which we have been visiting virtual classrooms, exploring blogs, the discussion board (not visited by many yet) and some have even stepped into web page creation, one of the  topics for week 4. Check out our page for this week: http://www.oocities.org/bawebhead/week4.html

During week 4, we will be discussing our online presence. And as Leah rightly pointed out, we need to reflect on how our encounter with all these Web tools we have been exploring have touched us, how they will influence or not our teaching, how this whole experience has been. Have you read some of the articles we have suggested? What has called your attention? Do you have articles to suggest? Let us know.

I would like to share with you a journal entry I wrote 2 years ago when I started creating my first Web pages. I had forgotten about that text and reading Leah’s post it came to my mind and decided to share it with you: http://www.oocities.org/dygonza/diary.html

Two years later, after having created tons of Web pages, I am still learning, and as a result of this session, a group of us will start with Dreamweaver. So, those of you who feel like creating a web page, do not think too much, go for it!! You will find many helping hands reaching through cyberspace to make the process successful for you.

This week we will continue with our round of live sessions. Barbara Dieu, our dear and active Bee, will be talking about blogs at Tapped In, on Monday, Feb 16 at 22:00 GMT (today).

And on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 16:00 GMT, Arnold Mühren, will be talking about the use synchronous and asynchronous tools  in tutoring.

With these two presentations we are approaching the issue of how to use the tools we have been learning about for our teaching online or in hybrid contexts.

Enjoy this week, let us hear from you in any of the spaces we have provided for you to express yourself (blog, discussion board, yahoo group list, or our live events). Remember that we are also available at YM many hours a day and less but also at MSN.

Also remember that we update our Web page and you can find there all the information about coming and past events, participants, hints, glossary, and much more. If you do not know where to start, look at our site index at: http://www.oocities.org/bawebhead/siteindex.html

  Have a great week,

Daf
