When I was a young girl,
my father had a stroke.
I used to always help him,
to make sure he didn't choke.
When he passed I made a vow,
to help other people in need.
So to nursing school I went,
and there I took the creed.
I did my best to give comfort,
and to let them know I cared.
I did my best to ease the fear,
and help them from being scared.
Love and comfort for the ill,
will help them to survive.
When their mind starts to leave,
Love can help them to revive.
I thank God for this gift,
that I could offer to all.
I'm old now and in a home,
with memories that I recall.
I hope that the care I get,
is the same I used to give.
But if they forget or don't,
I will ask God to forgive.
For caring for us elderly,
is really quite a chore.
And in many ways harder,
then the kids that we bore.
So I want to thank you,
for helping us old souls.
And always remember this,
there is a reversal of roles.
