I'm from Cincinnati; how about you?
October, 2002 I'm a former public high-school history & math teacher and still feel like a 60's child - even now, I love those bell-bottoms & protests about injustices, though I'm now nearly 52, and feeling much more in poor health after falling down my back porch steps in mid-June, ending up on my rump with a compression fracture of my 1st lumbar vertabrae. I consider myself a Democratic Socialist who's tired of the lack of ethics in my country's leaders, is (literally) sick from the continued absence of National Health Care in the U.S.A., and absolutely loves the solidarity of Unions! I also dislike discrimination of any kind - against Native Americans, Asian-Americans, African-Americans, Appalachians, women, gays, obese people, smokers, left-handers, people with disabilities, poor, etc. I'm not "new" to this pursuit anymore, but I'm still experimenting VERY slowly; I'm also certainly no expert yet, even after now close to 5 years on the Web. Since my main interests in life still seem to be genealogy and politics, I keep trying to create a slightly more balanced site - not only genealogy anymore, but also an on-going compendium of some of my most strongly-held thoughts about modern American, international, & even global life. This site will always be in flux - however slowly due to my serious health problems - but if I can manage it, I'd still like to eventually share with you pictures of my family, my cats, & me, as well as other interests of mine (such as Girl Scouting & primitive camping?), whenever something comes to mind, and even maybe a bit of my favorite music if the fancy strikes me. I welcome old and new friends, and PLEASE be sure to take a minute to leave me a note in my guestbook below, if you would (I finally got it fixed again). Please forgive me when I usually don't answer you - I just cannot keep up! If you think something is really important, copy your original message to me & keep sending it over & over to me - I'll probably finally answer if I can. I owe so many so much thanks & gossip & help & connection, I feel really badly that I'm incapable of managing to reply to even a tiny fraction of even the really important e-mail or the people of whom I already am or eventually will become fond. As I've said previously, I abhor discrimination of any kind, and I come out of the Sixties era with all that implies. My astrological birth sign is Aquarius, and I feel I fit that mold with a very future-oriented frame of reference. I'm really not too much interested in any reactionary or supposedly "rational" thinking, since it has had a hugely negative effect on my life, and I disagree with most of it viscerally. This "Volume III" of my website will merely add to my old one - continuing to praise Cincinnati, my beloved hometown, and updating and expanding my family tree and genealogy passion, but I'd also now like to expand toward broader horizons, and begin sharing more of my political beliefs, family photos, love of cats, etc. Be sure to check my Rootsweb.com WorldConnect site to see many pictures I've been adding, despite their still pitiful condition as far as lack of captions go... So, once again, welcome to my personal corner of cyberspace, and I hope you enjoy your time spent browsing here! Sincerely,
Barbara (V. Smith)
