I'd've taken better care of myself!
First of all, I'm a gay man. This automatically means I don't fit in with the majority of people on this planet. Second, I don't "act gay" (or so I'm told). I don't call other guys "girlfriend", and I think the Fab 5 on "Queer Eye" are just plain annoying!. I'm comfortable in jeans and a flannel shirt. Oh yeah, I'm also 55 now, and I'm fat! This means I don't fit in with the typical gay bar-hopping, disco-techno-house music-twirling, strobelight-dancing crowd of young gay men. To top it all off, I'm not handsome. So, those who might make an occasional exception in their search for Mr. Right aren't going to look twice, either.
So, just where does an old, fat, plain-looking gay man like me fit in? You tell me. Now, some of you read this, and automatically start calling, "Pity... Party of One? Your table is ready!" That's not quite it. True, I may have a few self-esteem issues, but overall, I'm content with who I am. I accept that I'm alone... and pretty likely to stay that way. Most guys will just sit on the other side of the room, take one look at me and make their snap judgements, without ever bothering to find out that I have a great sense of humor (even if slightly warped at times)... they'll never know how giving I can be, or how sincere, or how passionate! Fortunately, I'm comfortable being alone. Yeah, it'd be nice to have someone to share a life with... but if I end up alone, at least I'll be in good company!
