Prior to moving to Ramsay Street, Harold had two children to a wife named Mavis. His kid's names were David and Kerry. By the time he moved to Ramsay Street, he had lost contact with Kerry due to the difference in the way they lived: Kerry as a hippy, and Harold believed in leading a healthy, Christian life.
Initially, Harold moved in with Nell Mangel, a busybody of Ramsay Street. It was on Ramsay Street that Harold was reunited with Madge, who had been married and divorced since they last met. After many fights with Lou over her, Harold won Madge's love and married her. David was Harold's best man at the wedding.
Harold made quite an impression at the Ramsay household, no. 24. Madge's kids Henry and Charlene (and Scott, her husband) lived there, and Harold expected Sundays (the Day of the Sabbath) to be quiet, stressfree and for the family to eat as a whole: not possible!! Harold also caused many problems when it came to Henry and his relationship with Bronwyn Davies. His position as scout member and also as a vegetarian also created a few laughs and a few problems at no. 24.
Harold became a joint owner in the coffee shop along with Des Clarke, a bank manager. Madge continued to work in a bar at Lassiters. It was at the coffee shop that Harold was reunited with Kerry and her daughter Skye. Once again there was conflict in the different ways of life, but eventually Harold gave in and Kerry stayed, marrying Joe Mangel. Joe and Harold often clashed because of different personalities. When they did: it as very funny!! Especially the conflict over the gardening competition!
Later, Kerry was shot and killed by duck hunters while protesting. All of the kids had now left Ramsay street.
Harold briefly was able to call himself an "Earl". A distant relative died, leaving a Scottish property and a title to the closest living relative. This happened to be Harold. Harold was over the moon at this. Him and Madge were ready to leave Erinsborough for Scotland- until someone else popped up and inherited the title instead!
While Madge and Harold were on holiday in 1991, Harold fell off the rocks into the sea. All that was found were his glasses and everyone assumed he had drowned. Madge lived with Lou for a while before leaving Ramsay Street altogether.
The story goes that Harold returned from Tasmania with Amnesia. He couldn't remember anything about his past and it wasn't until he joined the Salvation Army that Helen Daniels spotted him and recognized him. He was reunited with Madge and they moved back into no. 24 in 1996.
This past has come back to haunt him since moving back into Ramsay street. Whilst watching TV, Harold discovered that he looked very much like a man on a "Most Wanted" program. This man had held up a store in Tasmania. Because of his amnesia, Harold could not remember anything that he had done while he was in Tasmania. The police questioned him and he was summonsed to court in Tasmania. Luckily a woman knew the real thief and told the poilce before Harold was sent to jail.
Harold currently plays the Tuba and also has taken part in Judo lessons. Madge and him adopted Paul Mclain and later "Tad" Reeves.
Even after Madge's death from cancer and an infection, Harold still runs the coffee shop, is a member of the Salvation Army, still sustains his Christian belief and is the resident busybody of Ramsay Street.
Paul left him in 2001 in pursuit of a football career, and Tad departed mid 2002, leaving Harold with the company of Lou and Rosie Hoyland, the Christian minister of Erinsborough.
This history was pieced together by ME and took a lot of hard effort!! I didn't scab it from anywhere.
