"Divide & conquer, my friend. You divide a woman's emotions from her sensibilities and you have her."
Julius Caesar

Arrogant, determined & crazy - three of the better qualities found amongst the Roman Legions.

The ruthless Roman who is set on conquering the world. In her days as a pirate, Xena kidnapped him for ransom but became his lover. After he was released, he came on board Xena's ship and she, believing he would not harm her, told her men to lower their weapons.

As a result, he took Xena and her men prisoner and crucified them all. He broke Xena's legs and left her to die. Luckily, Xena's friend, M'Lila had escaped and she rescued Xena from the cross. Unfortunately, M'Lila was killed by roman soldiers whilst protecting Xena. Ever since, Xena has been seeking revenge against Caesar.
Xena manages to stop Caesar from destroying Boadicea's army in "The Deliverer" and she also enjoys a small victory when he is forced to execute Crassus instead of Vercinix in "When In Rome".

Caesar is not to be trusted. He even betrays those who are loyal to him. Xena warns Brutus that Caesar is intending to send him off to fight in Gaul and does not expect him to return (see "Ides Of March"). Brutus does not believe this until Caesar gives him the orders to march on Gaul. Angered by this betrayal, Brutus, together with his supporters, attack and kill Caesar.

A Roman soldier, friend of Caesar and enemy of the Amazons. Gabrielle once spared his life even though he was responsible for Ephiny's death (see "Endgame"). In repayment, he spares Amarice when she and Gabrielle are captured by his soldiers in "Ides Of March".

Xena tells Brutus that Caesar is planning to be rid of him by sending him to Gaul to fight, knowing he will not return. As repayment, Brutus (and others) kill Caesar on the Ides of March. Spookily, this is happening at the same time that Xena and Gabrielle are being crucified.
After killing Caesar, Brutus' hunger for power grows. It is he who is responsible for Cleopatra's assassination in "Antony And Cleopatra". On encountering Gabrielle, he is shocked to see she is alive, believing that she died on the cross. He is even more shocked to find Xena posing as Cleopatra. When she tells him she will give him control of the Egyptian fleet against Antony, Brutus does not trust her.

However, when Gabrielle agrees to go with him as security, he is convinced. When he realises Xena's betrayal, he attacks Gabrielle and nearly kills her. Enraged, Gabrielle fights back and strikes a killing blow.

An ambitious Roman commander and rival to Caesar, Pompey gives himself the title 'Pompey the Magnus' (meaning 'Pompey the Magnificent') in the episode "When In Rome".

He offers Xena his dagger as 'a gift', thereby giving her the means to kill Caesar and, in return, he will secure her an escape route out of Rome. Unfortunately, Caesar anticipates Xena's assassination attempt and imprisons her.
Pompey appears again in the episode "A Good Day" when Xena pits him and Caesar against each other in an effort to save Greece. Pompey tries once more to make a deal with Xena but she is interested only in getting the Romans out of her homeland.

Finally, Xena and Pompey meet in combat and Xena kills him. She then gives his head to Brutus to present to Caesar (see "Endgame").

Pompey's second-in-command and first seen in "A Good Day".

He is encountered again in "Endgame", when, on Pompey's orders, he captures Amazons to sell them into slavery. Unfortunately for him, Xena manages to rescue the Amazons, leaving him to give Pompey the bad news.
In the final battle between Pompey and the Amazons, Carminus is
slain by Xena.

One of the Roman triumvirate, along with Caesar and Pompey.

In "When in Rome" Xena enters Rome with the intent of freeing Vercinix, a captured Gaelic warrior. She barters with Caesar for the release of Vercinix in exchange for Crassus whom she has captured.
As part of Xena's plan, Crassus is switched with Vercinix inside the prison but Gabrielle does not return his identifying ring to him, knowing this will lead to his execution in Vercinix's place.

Although originally intent on returning the ring, she changes her mind after hearing about Crassus' evil slaughter of women and children in Gaul.

Octavius is Caesar's successor, set to be the next emperor of Rome (see "Antony And Cleopatra").

When Xena (posing as Cleopatra) discovers him sneaking around her chambers, she has him thrown into the dungeons, saying she will question him later. Gabrielle goes to talk to him and finds out that he is idealistic and wants the best for Rome and her people.
Octavius becomes good friends with Xena and Gabrielle and helps them when they concoct a plan to make the gods think that Eve is dead (see "Looking Death In The Eye"). He secretly takes Eve away and looks after her whilst Xena and Gabrielle carry out their plan.
Unfortunately, Octavius returns with Eve to find that Ares has taken Xena and Gabrielle's bodies and hidden them away, believing them to be dead.

When Xena and Gabrielle are revived, they seek out Octavius to find out where Eve is (see "Livia"). Octavius is now Augustus Caesar, emperor of Rome and Eve is to be his wife and successor.

Antony is a Roman soldier, loyal to his country and determined to bring about peace through force (see "Antony And Cleopatra").

When he first meets Xena (posing as Cleopatra) he is impressed by her courage and beauty but is not overwhelmed by it and does not press his advantage.
However, when he arrives at her palace, he is quite happy to flirt with her and enjoy her company.
Although he originally intended to secure Cleopatra's fleet, through force if need be, he soon falls in love with Xena/Cleopatra and asks her to return with him to Rome, to rule by his side.

However, when he discovers he has been betrayed, he tries to kill Xena but falls victim to her sword instead.

The mad Roman emperor, seen in "The God You Know". In this episode, he is persecuting Eli's followers, something Xena is not prepared to tolerate.

He believes himself to be a god and, indeed, is half-right as he is sucking Aphrodite's godhood from her.
Ares, who is currently mortal, is unable to stop this, especially as Aphrodite is not in her right mind due to the imbalance caused by the absence of a God of War.
Caligula is not impressed with Saba the charioteer (Xena) when she turns up late for his party but she soon gets his attention when she bites him, drawing blood.
He then sets her up as his new queen, discarding Aphrodite when she is of no further use to him (i.e. she is also now mortal).

After losing a chariot race to Saba, Caligula takes his own life after being tricked by Xena into thinking she will kill him. Unfortunatly for Caligula, Xena’s God killing powers were already taken from her.

Unaware of her true identity, Eve believes herself to be Livia, champion of Rome.

She is groomed to be Octavius' successor but Ares, not realising who she is, also has a vested interest in her (see "Livia").
When Livia/Eve finds out her real name is Eve and that Xena is her mother, she seems unconcerned and disinterested. She is, however, jealous of the attention Ares pays to Xena.
She challenges Xena to gladiatorial combat. Although Xena wins, she refuses to kill her daughter.
In "Eve" we see Livia rampaging across the countryside, crucifying Eli's followers. Xena follows in pursuit but cannot seem to turn Livia/Eve from her destructive path.
Finally, it is a message from the heavens that makes Eve realise who she really is and what she has done. It is at this point she accepts
her true name.

From this point forth, Eve undergoes a transformation. In "Motherhood" she allows herself to be punished for the atrocities she has committed. She is then baptised. Following her baptism, she attempts to apologise to Virgil for killing Joxer. At this point, she doesn't care whether or not he kills her.
