The participants this week are Berel (BB) and Wiesia (WF). We are

both begging apologies for rushing through the assignment!

1 BB On that day David made Solomon king over all Israel.

2 BB All the men of Israel came to Shechem to make Saul king over

them, for Hashem has chosen him as king. And then Samuel the prophet

made him king. And Samuel spoke to (lit. in the ears of) the people

saying: "Behold I have listened to your voices according to all that

you said, and I have made the king reign over you. Behold your king

is before you! And it will happen if he will indeed keep the mitzvot

of Hashem and he will do according to all that is written in the

Sefer Torah of Moses, and his heart will be at peace with the Hashem

his G-d, (then) behold Hashem your G-d will be with you and he will

fight on your behalf and he will give to you a salvation from all you

enemies, and he will place a fear of you upon the nations of the

earth."

2. WF All the men of Israel came to Samuel to Shechem to make Saul

king over them because Hashem chose him to be a king and Samuel, the

prophet, made him king there. And Shmuel spoke in the elders of the

people saying, Behold, I've heard your voice acc.to all that you've

said and I'll make a king to reign over you, and behold your king is

before you and it shall come to pass that if he does keep the

commandments of the Lord and he doeacc.to all that is written in the

Book of the law of Moses and it'll come to pass that his heart will

be perfect unto Hashem his God, behold Hashem, your God will be with

you and he'll walk to you and he'll give unto you salvation from all

your enemies and he'll give fear of you unto all the nations of the

earth

3 BB Speak to Pharaoh and say to him: "Thus said Hashem, the G-d of

Israel, behold I am sending my angel into your midst and he will kill

all the first-born of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharoah who is

dwelling on his throne, to the first-born of the the slave. And I

will distinguish on that day between Israel and between Egypt, and

you will know that I am Hashem.

3. WF Speak to pharaoh and said unto him, Thus spoke Hashem,God of

Israle. Behold i am sending my messenger / angel instead of you (and)

to kill al the firstborn [sons] of Egypt, from pharaoh's firstborn

siting upon his throne and as far as the firstborn of the servant,

and I'll distinguish on that day between Israel and between Egypt,

and you'll know [=learnt] that I am the Lord/ Hashem.

4 BB And Hashem spoke to Moses saying: "Assemble the heads of the

people and its judges and speak to them saying, 'separate yourselves

from amidst this wicked assembly, for Hashem is destroying this

place, and they will go down to Sheol, they and their wives and their

sons and their daughters and their sheep and all that is theirs.

4. WF And Hashem spoke to Moshe saying, Make the 'heads' of the

people and his judges to gather together and ypu'll speak to them

saying, that wicked assembly has divided in their midst so that God

destroyed that place and they descended to Sheol, they and and their

men and their sons and their daughters and their flocks and all that

belonged to them.

5 BB The woman hid the spies of Israel with her in the house, and the

elders of the city sought them and they did not find them.

6 BB And on that day I will hide my face from them, and their enemies

will come to them and they will destroy their cities and they will

take all the gold which is found (participle) in the house of Hashem

and they will burn the Bayit Hakodesh.

6. WF On that day I'll hide my face from them and they will come upon

them and destroy their ..?.. and take all their sacrifice to be found

in the house of the Lord and burn the holy house.

7 BB Hashem saw that all flesh has brought ruin upon his? (referring

to Hashem in the primary clause) / its? (referring to basar in the

secondary clause) way on the earth.

7. WF God saw that all the flesh destroyed its way upon the earth.

8 BB The angels said to them, do indeed escape to the mountain for we

are destroying the city.

8. WF The angels said unto me, Do flee to the mountains because we'll

destroy the town.

9 BB Why did you hide your face from me, am I not your servant?

10 BB From the heavens you made your voice heard (I would have

thought you'd need a Hophal to have a passive meaning -- I'd have

translated hishmata as "caused to hear!"-- I only knew this because

of the dictionary entry) and you spoke to us from the middle of the

fire.

10. From the heavens you've made your voice heard and I spoke unto

you from the midst of the fire.

11 BB G-d saw the light which he made and behold it was very good,

and he separated between the light and the darkness.

and he distinguished between the light and the dark.

12 You Israel are my first-born son whom I have chosen from all the

nations to separate them to myself as a holy nation (I couldn't find

this "hidil li ... l..." in my Holladay dictionary, but it is in

BDB).

12. My son, my firstborn, you are - Israel - which I have chosen from

all the nations to gather them together unto me for a holy nation.
